Riot Games is actively preparing for the release of League of Legends on a new engine with updated graphics and numerous mechanical changes to both the map and the characters. This is exactly why champions of much higher quality are being added to the game, and old characters are being reworked by changing their appearance, abilities, and sometimes mechanics. And today we are going to talk about the new Shyvana VGU, which the developers have been discussing for a long time.

What is VGU in LoL?

A VGU (Visual and Gameplay Update) in League of Legends is a great way to give old champions a second life. When a character becomes outdated, playing them becomes boring, and their model is noticeably inferior to newer champions. In such situations, Riot Games completely reworks the champion. Right now, all players' attention is focused on the upcoming Shyvana update.

The main goal of such changes is not just to improve the graphics, but to rework the hero entirely. Everything changes: from appearance and animations to abilities and lore. As a result, Shyvana will become much more interesting and will be useful again in the current game.

Past updates have already shown how well this works. For example, the old Mordekaiser was quite boring to play. After the update, he became playable with a cool ultimate that drags the enemy into the "death realm" for a duel. This rework made him an excellent toplaner, where his new skills shine best. The recent LeBlanc and Vladimir updates also refreshed the game perfectly: they received modern models and visual effects, completely getting rid of their outdated design.

Now it is Shyvana's turn. The developers want her transformation into a fire-breathing dragon to feel truly powerful and modern. Such updates help veterans fall in love with forgotten heroes again, and make it easier for beginners to master them. Therefore, the release of the new Shyvana is awaited with great interest, while fans of other truly old champions, like Zilean or Cho'Gath, are still waiting for their turn.

Shyvana has definitely been buffed, and quite significantly. While the old version of the character relied exclusively on raw numbers and was essentially a straightforward stat-stick, she has now been given all the essential features of a modern frontline fighter. Her arsenal finally includes built-in healing and thick shields for survivability in team fights. To deal with tanks, she was given true damage and consistent percent-health damage, and for proper team fights - strong crowd control, which she completely lacked before. As a result, the new Shyvana has received a flexible toolkit that allows her to adapt to any in-game situation, rather than just blindly rushing forward.

Riot Games' Future Plans and Thoughts on the Shyvana VGU

The game is over 15 years old, and there are still champions that desperately need a rework, and Riot Games understands this perfectly. Every update and improvement of champions in this way has always had a positive impact on the game and has been a pleasant event for the fans. It is great that in the upcoming update we will get not just a visual and audio overhaul, but mechanical changes as well, which will most likely bring Shyvana back into regular public matches or maybe even make her another viable option for professional players.

We are used to a steady release of 3 new champions per year, but Riot Games changed everything this year. Only one new character will be released this season, about whom there is not much information yet - just various circulating rumors, but nothing concrete. However, what is important is that Riot explained to the fans the purpose of these changes. The company is actively working on improving the game and transitioning it to a new engine. In addition, the developers stated that there will also be many changes in both champion balance and the map itself. At the same time, the game will remain under the name League of Legends without transitioning into a so-called "League of Legends 2" era.
