What big tournaments await us this year in Poland and around the world?
Elen StelmakhThe year 2024 is full of exciting sporting events that will attract the attention of fans from all over the world. There will be no shortage of excitement on Polish stadiums and pitches either, as our country will host several important events. Let's find out what great tournaments await us this year!
The most important sporting events in Poland
When preparing such a list, it is impossible to forget about one of the most important cycling events in Poland - the Tour de Pologne. The competition will take place from 12 to 18 August and, as every year, it will bring together the greatest cycling stars from all over the world, whose actions we will be able to observe on the route running through the country's main cities.
In addition, our country will also host the final of the League of Nations in volleyball. From 27 to 30 June at the Atlas Arena in Łódź, the Polish national team will defend the title won in 2023. In turn, on 14-15 June at the PreZero Arena in Gliwice, the second edition of the Poland Dart Masters event will take place, during which top PDC players will compete against representatives of Eastern Europe.
World events - how do the Poles' chances look?
The attention of all football fans is, of course, directed at the upcoming Euro 2024 tournament, hosted by Germany. The tournament will kick off on 14 June and run for a month, until 14 July. In 10 stadiums in 10 German cities, 24 of Europe's best teams will compete for the title of continental champion. However, the favourites for the event are already known - without much surprise, bookmakers are betting on countries such as Germany, England, France, Spain and Portugal. What other tournaments can sports fans look forward to this year?
Many fans and supporters are certainly looking forward to the Summer Olympics in Paris, which France is hosting for the third time in its history. The country previously hosted the Olympics in 1900 and 1924. This year's event will take place from 26 July to 11 August, with the opening ceremony taking place uniquely not in a stadium, but on the banks of the Seine. There will be competition for 329 medals in 48 disciplines. Among the more than 10 000 competitors, there will be a 250-strong team from Poland.
There will also be plenty of excitement for tennis fans. The best players, including Poland's representatives Iga Świątek and Hubert Hurkacz, will compete on the Roland Garros courts in Paris at the turn of May and June, on the London grass at Wimbledon in early July and at the US Open in New York at the end of August. The coming weeks are therefore shaping up to be a real treat for fans of the Polish tennis players' international endeavours. Especially as our representatives have a good chance of success.
