Mewgenics Walkthrough: All Acts Unlocking

The main story progression in Mewgenics is a long journey that takes you through multiple acts, each with its own set of areas and unique challenges. Advancing requires completing runs in designated zones, which in turn unlocks the next stage of your adventure. Some areas, however, are hidden and demand the completion of specific, multi-step quests tied to the game’s bosses and lore. This guide provides a clear path through the main story, detailing how to unlock every act and the secret areas hidden within them.

Mewgenics All Acts

The world is structured across three primary acts, with your path branching and converging as you clear key locations. Progression is mostly linear, but two major secret areas, The Throbbing Domain and The Rift, require intricate quest chains to access. These quests serve as major milestones in your journey, testing your strategic depth and rewarding you with access to new content.

Act 1

  • The Alley: Unlocked at the start of the game.
  • The Sewers: Complete a run in The Alley.
  • The Caves: Complete a run in The Sewers.
  • The Junkyard: Complete the 'hard branch' of The Alley.
  • The Boneyard: Complete a run in The Junkyard.

Secret Area Quest: The Throbbing Domain

  • Quest Part 1: After your first encounter with the house boss Guillotina, you receive the Throbbing Gristle. This item must be carried to the Wall of Flesh located within The Caves.
  • Quest Part 2: In a subsequent fight, Guillotina will yield the Putrid Leech. This item must be taken to the Throbbing Artery in The Boneyard.
  • Quest Part 3: A third and final battle with the boss rewards you with Guillotina’s Head. This must be equipped to one of your cats and sacrificed at the meat altar within The Throbbing Domain to complete the quest line.

Act 2

  • Desert: Complete runs in both The Boneyard and The Caves.
  • The Bunker: Complete a run in The Desert.
  • The Core: Complete a run in The Bunker.
  • The Crater: Complete a run in The Desert.
  • The Moon: Complete a run in The Crater.

Secret Area Quest: The Rift

  • Quest Part 1: After clearing runs on both The Moon and The Core, encounter the bosses Pyrophina and Zaratana. You must take the Burning Orb from Pyrophina and have a cat hold it in front of the Man on the Moon boss to feed it to him.
  • Quest Part 2: The Shard you get from Zaratana must be charged by killing 20 enemies while it is equipped. Once charged, it must be taken to the Coven on the Core and used on it.
  • Quest Part 3: This triggers a battle between giant versions of Pyrophina and Zaratana back at your house. The collar of the surviving boss must be taken to the obelisk at the end of their respective home area (The Moon for Pyrophina's collar, The Core for Zaratana's collar) to finally open The Rift.

Act 3

  • The Lab: Complete runs in both The Core and The Moon.
  • Ice Age: Complete a run in The Lab.
  • The Future: Complete a run in The Lab.
  • The Jurassic: Complete a run in Ice Age.
  • The End: Complete a run in The Future.
  • The Infinite: Complete runs in both The Jurassic and The End.

For Progression Quests, survival is the absolute priority, so breeding durable cats with strong base stats is essential to counteract instant-death mechanics. For the optional Invention Quests, you should carefully tailor your team composition to handle the specific negative modifier of the quest item.

Success in progressing through the acts depends on careful preparation and strategic team building. Before embarking on a run, you must assemble a balanced team; our Mewgenics classes guide offers a detailed explanation of every role and their unlocking, but a key takeaway is the near necessity of a Cleric for their healing abilities on long and arduous journeys. Do not neglect your home base, as installing furniture from Baby Jack improves house stats like Comfort and Appeal, which directly impacts the quality and frequency of the cats you have available for breeding. Creating a steady supply of strong kittens with good inherited stats is fundamental to conquering the game’s later stages.

Questing introduces difficult modifiers, making resource management and tactical execution more critical than ever. For Progression Quests tied to bosses like Guillotina, where instant-death mechanics are common, your primary focus should be on pure survival. In contrast, the optional Invention Quests from Dr. Beanies allow for more creative strategies, where you can build a team specifically designed to mitigate or even exploit the quest item's negative modifier. During any of these difficult runs, do not hoard consumable items. Use weapons and healing items freely, as they are often the key to surviving a tough battle and can make the difference between a failed run and unlocking the next area.

Your strategic thinking must extend beyond team composition and into battlefield tactics and long-term cat management. Always attempt to position your cats behind an enemy before attacking to gain a 25% damage bonus, a crucial advantage in drawn-out boss fights. At home, use different rooms to separate cats to prevent unwanted breeding or fights that cause injuries. Managing your roster also means knowing when to let go; donating cats to the various NPCs provides you with essential items and upgrades that directly fuel your progression, so don't become too attached to cats that are past their prime.
