Valve unveiled Counter-Strike 2: no more Global Offensive, Source 2, updated maps and more
Yuriy SheremetRecent rumours have turned out to be true. Valve has indeed unveiled Counter-Strike 2!
The legendary brainchild of Valve will get a new life, and with it the name. The game's authors decided to remove the Global Offensive subheading: now the game is simply called Counter-Strike 2.
So far the community was shown only a part of the innovations, but it's already enough to understand a simple thing - we are waiting for a completely new game. In short, let's talk about all the available information about Counter-Strike 2.
Counter-Strike 2 release date and beta test launch
Valve not only showed Counter-Strike 2, but also revealed the release date of the legendary shooter's sequel. A specific day was not named, but the wait is not too long.
Counter-Strike 2 will be released in the summer of 2023. While waiting for the game, some chosen ones will be able to take part in the shooter's closed beta test, records for which are already open.
Switching to Source 2: responsive smoke and no server update frequency
As early as the summer of 2023, news resources will lose one of the key CSGO infomercials. Counter-Strike 2 is moving to Source 2.
The move to the engine marks a key change in the game in relation to its predecessor. CS2 has completely redesigned the smoke mechanics, as well as changing the server frequency settings.
The new smoke effect interacts with other elements of the game, opening up room for new tactics. Bullets and grenades disperse the smoke, expanding the veil or dispersing it briefly.
In addition, smoke will now disperse through open doors and broken windows, go down and up stairs, stretch down corridors and mix with smoke from other grenades.
CS2's competitive servers will use a "sub-structure". This means that servers will now process information in real time, rather than once per period, as was the case with CSGO.

Updated maps in Counter-Strike 2
The obvious new feature of the second part of CS will be the updated maps. Valve has divided the updated cards into three categories: recreated from scratch, improved and reference.
The recreated from scratch maps will offer players a new gaming experience. Thanks to Source 2 technologies, the developers have completely changed a number of obsolete battlefields, such as Overpass.
Improved maps will experience a second lease of life thanks to faithful rendering systems with realistic textures of light and reflection.
Reference maps will retain their look with minimal changes. Valve has tinkered with the lighting on these maps, and improved the readability of the models on them.
Moving your inventory to Counter-Strike 2
Fans of collecting in-game items and collecting expensive skins have nothing to worry about. Valve and CSGO skins gambling sites will take care of users' inventories.
All items will be transferred to Counter-Strike 2 and get a better quality thanks to the power of Source. Some skins will get even better looking with the resulting high quality models.
In the coming days, weeks and months Valve promise to systematically unveil new details about Counter-Strike 2. We'll keep an eye out for any updates to the iconic shooter and keep you updated on the major ones.
