Casino in Poland - history and present

Many Poles are gamblers and derive real joy from casino games and sports betting. However, the history of playing in Polish casinos is bumpy. It can even be said that it shows the difficult history of the country on the Vistula in the last 100 years.

Casinos in the interwar period

The first online casino in Poland was established in Sopot shortly after regaining independence. It was located at the hotel and welcomed players from different countries. You could meet as many Germans as Poles in the Sopot casino. Citizens of eastern countries also played there.

The Sopot casino quickly became famous in Poland and abroad. Some of them managed to win there, others recorded losses. For many, however, it was a meeting place in international company. During World War II, the first Polish best casino sites was taken over by German soldiers.

Casino games in the times of the Polish People's Republic

After the Second World War, gambling in Poland was banned for ideological reasons. The Soviets forbade the opening of casinos, and a fine could even be received for playing poker with friends at home.

Eager for casino impressions had to go abroad. Nonetheless, gambling continued to be associated mainly with coastal towns. Cruises on the Baltic Sea were popular - after entering the international waters, it was possible to legally play in the casino located on the ship.

Casinos in the 21st century

After the political changes at the turn of the century, the gambling situation also changed. For a long time in Poland, gambling games were played mainly on one-armed bandits, which could be found in pubs or bars.

Later, the entire gambling industry underwent a revolution and moved to the Internet. From that moment on, access to online casinos has become much easier, regardless of where you live. However, Polish legal regulations are quite restrictive in relation to gambling. As a consequence, the number of land-based casinos in the country on the Vistula River is very limited. Land-based casinos can only be found in the largest cities.
