How to play carry in Dota 2
Yuriy SheremetLine Play Tips:
- Don't be afraid to trade for health. As a rule, all carries have a sufficient amount of HP at the beginning of the game: dodgers have a lot of armor, and enforcers have a lot of health. If you have already spent spells on you, and you are not dying, then be sure to give a couple of hits in response.
- The priority when approaching the first two packs of creeps is on denying and harassing the enemy, and not on last hits. Denai brings an advantage in experience, and harassment knocks out regen from the enemy.
- If you push the lane a lot, then instead of attacking the t1 tower, try to kill the creeps and then zone out the enemy heroes. Together with the previous point, this will lead to lane dominance.
- Try to always aggro the creeps, especially if things are not going well. This is necessary in order to minimize the harassment from the enemy for each creep.
- Bait the enemy with a spell that usually lasts a ranged creep. Rangewick is the most valuable creep, it gives more gold and experience.
- At 8-12 minutes, Epileptic Kid goes to the enemy carry's safe lane to apply pressure.
What to do after the line:
If you have an advantage:
•After 8-12 minutes we go to the lane of the enemy carry to take the tower and farm next to the demolished tower.
If the enemy heroes are drawn there, then we farm our own triangle. Then we return to where the tower fell to push the creeps to the t2 tower, and again return to the triangle.
• To change the line, we select convenient moments:
- Death. If you die in the lane at 8-12 minutes, then rush to the lane of the enemy carry.
- Bounty runes or packs of creeps with a catapult.
- Gangs an enemy mid or carry.
• If the advantage grows, then stop farming the jungle. Either we push the lanes, or we fight with the team, putting constant pressure on the enemy.
• Push all lanes before entering the high ground.
If you are losing:
Even if the opponent has a game advantage, we still go to the enemy carry lane after 8-12 minutes.
When the enemy supports come to protect your carry, we return to the lost safe lane, because, as a rule, there is no one there.
We avoid fights, because at the moment the enemy is stronger. We try to split-push as much as possible in order to bait the enemy on tp. If someone arrives, then we rush to our team, and together look for a 5v4 fight - this is the best way to comeback to the game.
Farm on line
The main feature that any carry player should know and actively use is the ability to re-aggress enemy creeps on themselves. This simple mechanic can be done by using the 'Attack' command on an enemy hero while near enemy or even neutral creeps. What many players don't know is that this feature can be done by attacking any hero on the map, it doesn't have to is near you. For example, if you are in the bottom lane and you urgently need to re-aggress the creeps to the creep-mage, you can press the 'Attack' command on the hero who is in the top or mid lanes, and the creeps will then run at you. This feature is useful for simplifying the process of last hitting, preventing the opponent from getting last hits, or the need to kill an allied creep-mage.
Pharm
Between the 5th and 20th minutes, a carry player's gameplay is almost entirely farming. This doesn't mean that you should completely disappear from the map for this time, but you should farm as efficiently as possible. Try to stick to the following balance for this game span: 60% farm, 30% split push, 10% fight. You should not avoid fights completely, especially if there is an opportunity to make several kills. At the same time, don't provoke a lot of moves yourself, and definitely don't do stupid dives.
Map control
Killing creeps is important, but knowing which creeps to kill in certain areas of the game is even more important. Every carry player should know that lane creeps are much more important than jungle creeps. Not because of experience or gold, but because of the space you create by pushing the lines. When the lanes are expanded, you have access to more jungle camps, your supports can move more freely around the map, and most importantly, it becomes much easier to gather information about the opponent. If your team is leading the game, it is very important to try to keep at least two of three lines running. You will be surprised how much it will simplify your games.
Key Goals
Key targets such as Towers and Roshan are of great importance in Dota 2. Having an advantage and ignoring these targets can lead to very long games and even unnecessary losses. The easiest way to play a carry is to build on recently purchased items. Have you got a Manta? Use smoke with teammates. Did you buy BKB? Kill Roshan. Use all new items to your advantage, surprise your opponent with them.
Know the wine condition of your character
Each hero in DotA becomes significantly stronger in some part of the game. Anti-Mage requires Battle Fury, Manta Style and Skull Basher, Manta Style Medusa and Eye of Skadi, Hurricane Pike Sniper and Maelstrom. When you get to the right items and timings, it's important to use them immediately. It is not necessary to finish the game at the time your hero reaches the main power, but it is definitely important to get a map advantage at that time.
