Welcome to EGamersWorld.
The group stage of League of Legends World Championship 2025 is heating up. There are 14 teams left in the battle for the top 8.
We are talking about the 2-1 basket, where the last step is left before the play-offs. Gen.G - Top Esports will play for a place in the TOP-8 Worlds 2025, whose match will be held on the 23rd of October.
Let's try to find out who from the pair Gen.G - Top Esports will be stronger and will go to the Worlds 2025 play-offs, and who will have to try their luck once again in the do or die match of the 2-2 grid.
Let's go.
How The Bookie View It: Gen.G in Favour
Before the long match between Gen.G and Top Esports in the 2-1 Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage, the bookies have a clear favourite for the match. Obviously, it is Gen.G with odds of 1.25. On the victory of their vis-a-vis TES give 3.7.
Gen.G Form: What To Expect from Gen.G
In 2023, Gen.G won LCK Spring 2023, leaving no chance for T1 in the grand finals. A little less fortunate at MSI 2023, where Bilibili Gaming sensationally kept the Korean champions out of the finals.
- Gen.G line-up: Kiin, Canyon, Chovy, Ruler, Duno.
At LCK Summer 2023, Gen.G made it to the play-offs without much trouble. During the group stage, the titular Koreans gave up only 2 series, eventually finishing in 2nd place in the group stage table with a score of 16-2.
In their first play-offs match for themselves, Gen.G crushed HLE. HLE 3-0 and now Gen.G are ready to advance to the league finals for the second consecutive time.
The Grand Final is a rematch of the playoffs. Last round Gen.G beat T1 3-2 in a very tough series and I think the final will be the same.
And in the grand finals, they did it too. And it was even easier than in the match to get here: Gen.G became the LCK Summer Split champion by beating T1 3-1.
Worlds 2023 Gen.G started off with a solid win over Gam Esports. It was fast and painful for Gam with 22 minutes and only 5 kills for the Vietnamese.
In a 2-0 basket match, Gen.G played against their counterparts, and by extension, bitter rivals T1. The South Korean derby, like the last 4, ended in favour of Gen.G, as Chovy and his Akali left T1 with nothing to lose.
Gen.G went into the Worlds 2023 play-offs with a score of 3-0. In their final group stage match, they played against G2 Esports and, expectedly easily, ran over the Europeans 2-0.
Being one of the favourites for Worlds 2023, Gen.G couldn't handle the burden of responsibility and lost in the first round of play-offs, Ledgeiv BLG.
In the first match at LCK Spring 2024, Gen.G will be tested against T1. I'm sure the reigning LCK champions will be proud to pass it, as Gen.G are historically good at home against the Worlds 2023 champions. Following that, Gen.G will play Nongshim RedForce, where they should outplay their counterparts with unenviable ease.
After winning the LCK Spring 2024, Gen.G attended their first international tournament of the season - the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 - where they were crowned champions.
Gen.G attended the Esports World Cup 2024 as MSI 2024 champions, where they lost in their first match, finishing in the top 8. At LCK Summer 2024, the team knows no equal and guaranteed themselves an early exit to the play-offs by going there on a 12-0 score.
Gen.G too confidently advanced to the LCK Summer 2024 playoffs, finishing the regular season at 17-1. They immediately advanced to the second round of the play-offs, after which they chose DPlus KIA over T1 as their opponent. In the opening match, Gen.G took down their vis-a-vis in class: 3-0 and an easy passage to the next stage. In the LCK Summer 2024 play-offs, Gen.G played with class, but lost to Hanwha Life Esports 2-3 in the grand finals.
Worlds 2024 Team Long Sogpeg started with a win over WBG in the first round of the Swiss Stage. Next up was another win over LPL residents, this time Top Esports and a 2-0 hammering. LoL World Championship 2024 qualified for the play-offs thanks to a solid 2-0 win over HLE in the basket with a similar scoreline in the match.
In the debut match of the LoL Worlds 2024 play-offs, Gen.G played against FlyQuest. What was supposed to end with an uncontested victory of the top Korean team turned into a full-fledged Bo5, where Gen.G risked to lose to the Americans, but managed to finish with a score of 3-2. Next was T1, where Gen.G Ledge were beaten 1-3 and left the tournament at the TOP-4 stage.
The 2025 season started with an appearance at LCK Cup 2025 in the Elder Group, where they played a very tough Long Corner, playing the group with a score of 3-2. Thanks to the revamped LCK format, this led directly to the semi-final play-offs. There they met Hanwha Life Esports and, being the favourites, lost 2-3. In the match of the lower net with great difficulty managed to beat Nongshim RedForce with a minimum advantage of 3-2. But in the next match, against DPlus KIA, Gen.G showed what is called class, closing their visions with a score of 3-0, without a chance. In the grand-final Gen.G again played against HLE and again Ledgeili in a full-fledged bo5, taking the top 2 of LCK Cup 2025.
On the Road to MSI 2025, Gen.G came through with flying colours. They did not lose a single series in the regular season, finishing 18-0. After such a great performance, Gen.G made it to the Road to MSI 2025 top set match where they outscored HLE 3-2, advancing to the MSI 2025.
Mid-Season Invitational 2025 Knockout Stage Gen.G Long Team started off with a solid win over G2 Esports (3-1). Next up was a tough match against Anyone's Legend, where Gen.G won 3-1. Gen.G then defeated T1 in the Top Grid Final 3-2 and then won the Grand Final by a similar score to become the champions of the Mid-Season Invitational 2025.
After triumphing in Canada at the Mid-Season Invitational 2025, Gen.G earned another title, this time in Riyadh, winning the Esports World Cup 2025.
The MSI 2025 and Esports World Cup 2025 champions won the first group stage 18-0 and then played the second stage 29-1. Phenomenal play in the group stage took Gen.G straight into the second round of the top set, where Gen.G unexpectedly lost to KT Rolster. However, that didn't stop Gen.G from comingback through the lower LCK 2025, alternately defeating T1 and the same KT Rolster, and then defeating Hanwha Life Esports in the LCK 2025 Grand Finals.
At Worlds 2025, Gen.G Long started off with a solid win over PSG Talon, but later lost to Anyone's Legend, thus falling into a 1-1 basket. There, Gen.G met their long-time rival T1. The match ended with the destruction of the five-time world champions and an easy win for Gen.G.

Top Esports Form: What To Expect From TES
In 2022, Top Esports finished in the Top 2 twice in their home league and then made two appearances at Worlds 2022, where they finished in the Top 10. In the new season, the situation is slightly worse: they finished top-7 in the LPL Spring 2023, managing to qualify for the play-offs but failing to win a single game there.
- Tes Esports lineup: 369, Kanavi, Creme, JackeyLove, Crisp.
The group stage for TOP Esports was pleasant, but far from perfect. TES shared the top 4 of the regular season with LNG, going 12-4 in the series.
In their first play-offs match, TES faced serious resistance from EDG. TES defeated their counterparts by a score of 3-2.
TES fell to the bottom seed after a clash with Bilibili Gaming. That match ended with a 3-1 victory for the latter. Further bad luck continued in the lower grid of LPL Summer 2023. In the match for life at the tournament TES met LNG Esports, tried to impose a fight, but were powerless, lost with a score of 1-3 and left the tournament on the 4th line.
TES later played at the LPL Regional Finals 2023, where they tried to make it to the Worlds. Again they came up just short, as TES Ledge beat WBG 2-3, thus losing their chances of making it to Worlds 2023.
TES also had NEST 2023, where TES failed to make it out of the group, finishing 2-1. The group stage of Demacia Cup 2023 was quite easy for TOP Esports: they didn't lose a single match in Group D and easily made it to the main stage. However, in the play-offs, TES did not have the same ease: TOP Esports lost their first play-offs match to Ledgeiv JDG 2-3, which is not too bad considering the overall condition of the teams during the last season.
TOP Esports had a very good LPL Spring 2024 regular season: the team went 13-3, thus advancing straight to the Double-Elimination stage. In their first round of play-offs, TES played against JD Gaming and easily stomped them 3-0. Next were BLG in the match for the play-offs and there unfolded a real drama with a 3-2 victory in favour of Bilibili Gaming. In the LPL Spring 2024 Grand Finals, TES played against JD Gaming and were outplayed for the second time.
In the LPL Spring 2024 Grand Finals, TOP Esports played against Bilibili Gaming and lost 1-3.
In the first match of the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2024 Top Esports easily defeated LOUD with a score of 2-0. In the Bracket Stage match, TES played against Fnatic, where they won 2-1. They made their Bracket Stage debut with a solid 3-0 win over Liquid. Next was a defeat by Gen.G, followed by an elimination by G2 Esports and, as a result, Top 6.
TOP Esports also played at Esports World Cup 2024, where they reached the grand finals, but lost to T1.
At Worlds 2024, TES went from third place LPL Summer 2024 where Ledgeili WBG. The Long Sogpeg World Championship itself was won by the reigning world champions T1. Next was a loss to Gen.G, and then a solid win over Fnatic. They advanced to the play-offs after defeating DPlus KIA. Worlds 2024 play-offs did not go well: a 0-3 loss to T1 and a Top 8 exit.
The 2025 Longs season started with the group stage of LPL Split 1, where they drew 2-1 in Basket A. Going into the play-offs Long Sogpeg started from the first round of the lower bracket against a rather chipper Invictus Gaming and won 3-1. The next match against NiP also ended in favour of TES with a score of 3-1. In the lower grid final, TES defeated another top opponent, JDG, to close out the series with a 3-1 score. By advancing to the grand finals TES confirmed their status as one of the strongest teams in China by defeating AL by a score of 3-1.
After winning the LPL 2025 Split 1, TOP Esports visited First Stand 2025, the first international tournament of the season. There they played what they call a terrible game, finishing in the top 4.
LPL 2025 Split 2 played as expected: they made it to the play-offs. In the first round of the main stage LPL 2025 Split 2 beat FPX with a score of 3-1. However, it didn't go well: a loss to Bilibili Gaming in the top bracket and a loss to WE in the bottom bracket brought TES to the top 6. At LPL 2025 Split 3 TOP Esports finished in the top 2, leading Top Esports to the LPL Regional Finals, where they did well, finishing in the top 1 and qualifying for Swiss Stage Worlds 2025.
At Worlds 2025, TES had a solid start with two wins against "Western" teams: they beat G2 Esports and 100Thieves, but fell to Ledge and KT Rolster 0-2 in the play-offs.
Top Esports most popular champions
K'Sante (7 games, 85% wins) and Renekton (5 games, 80% wins) remain the most popular top line selections. Next are Sion (3 games, 66% wins) and Darius (2 matches, 100% wins).
In the forest, Sejuani (9 matches, 77% wins), Vi (4 matches, 75% wins), Maokai (4 games, 100% wins) are ubiquitous.

TES has a standard set of shooters: Lucian (6 games, 66% wins), Varus (4 games, 100% wins), Sivir (3 games, 33% wins). There is also Draven (3 games, 66% wins) and Jhin (3 matches, 66% wins).
Pool of players: Nami (6 games, 66% win rate), Yuumi (4 games, 75% win rate), Nautilus (4 games, 75% win rate), Heimerdinger (4 games, 100% win rate).
Gen.G - Top Esports Head-to-Head.
The last time the teams played each other was in the 2024 season. Gen.G are leading by a score of 2-1.
Predicted Result of the Match Gen.G - Top Esports at LoL World Championship 2025
As far as I'm concerned, there's no The International rigmarole in this match. We saw how the match Tes - KT Rolster ended, and KT is the top 3 LCK, while Gen.G is the undisputed leader of Korea and the best team in the world today. I think Ruler and company will take their slot in the play-offs without much trouble.
Prediction: Gen.G win.
