Riot Games Officially Confirm: There Will Be No League of Legends 2

Riot Games have confirmed that a sequel to League of Legends is not planned. Rather than developing LoL 2, the studio is investing in a significant transformation of the existing game.

In a short preview from an upcoming Dev Update, Riot outlined their long-term vision for League of Legends, which includes both technical upgrades and notable gameplay changes.

One of the key priorities is a brand-new game client. This client will be built directly into the game, eliminating the need for a separate launcher.

Alongside this, Riot are working on a comprehensive visual overhaul of Summoner’s Rift. The update will not be purely cosmetic, as gameplay adjustments will accompany the new map visuals to better align with the redesigned environment.

The developers also plan to make changes to certain runes and parts of the pre-game experience, with the goal of making match preparation more intuitive and streamlined.

New players will receive special attention as well. Riot are aiming to improve the onboarding experience, likely through a completely reworked tutorial system.
