League of Legends Worlds 2023 Anthem 'Gods' by NewJeans: A Historic K-Pop Collaboration
Bogdan LashchenkoRiot Games has unveiled 'Gods', the 2023 League of Legends World Championship anthem featuring NewJeans. This release is historic as it marks the first time a K-pop group has lent their voices to the League of Legends World Championship anthem, and it coincides with the 10th anniversary of anthems created for this annual esports event.
The accompanying music video for the 2023 Worlds anthem narrates the journey of Korean professional player Kim "Deft" Hyuk-kyu. It takes viewers from his introduction to League of Legends during high school to his remarkable run at Worlds 2022, where he and his team defied all odds to claim the title of World Champions.
'Gods', performed by NewJeans, was crafted by Riot Games' principal composer Sebastien Najand in collaboration with Alex Seaver from Mako. The song's announcement back in September generated excitement, with the girl group teasing it as "a new experience for all of us".
The group expressed their enthusiasm, saying, "It was fun to try a new genre and sound. Through this collaboration, we are happy to present a song that incorporates both NewJeans' and League of Legends' unique colors. We hope it brings you a new sense of empowerment!"
