LCK Spring 2022 Started Today
lieJanuary 12 morning. LCK Spring 2022 has just kicked off and teams have started playing their first matches. Immediately after the LPL from China, we will already be watching the second tournament of this magnitude in the new year.
What's with the money? And everything is quite simple. Unlike China, the prize pool in the Korean League came out half as much. Here it is ₩ 375,000,000 KRW (≃ $ 311,216 USD) - the same amount as the winner in the LPL. And here the main prize for the first place will be only ₩ 200,000,000 (≃ $ 165,982 USD) and the team's opportunity to get to the Mid-Season Invitational 2022.
Such differences in prize funds can be explained by the fact that only 10 best teams in the region will fight for this prize in Korea (instead of 17 in China). Moreover, LPL is sponsored not by Riot Games themselves, but by their controlling shareholder Tencent Games.
About the rules of the tournament
So, according to the classics, we are waiting for the group stage already familiar to all, 9 weeks long. During this time, each team must play 18 matches. Let me remind you that all matches of the LCK group stage will be in the Bo3 format.
After the end of the group stage, based on the results of the points scored, the 6 best teams will be determined, which will advance to the playoffs. Right there we will watch all the matches in Bo5 format.
