Dota 2 Patch 7.40b: What Changed And How It Affected The Game
On December 24, 2025, in Dota 2 was released patch 7.40b. This is a small but important update aimed at fixing bugs and balancing key mechanics that appeared after the major 7.40 update.
This patch did not introduce large-scale balance changes, but it fixed a number of bugs that affected the correct functioning of the game:
- fixed incorrect display of talent statistics in Dota+
- resolved issues with the Learn Ability toggle, which did not close after level 24
- fixed incorrect behavior of Smoke of Deceit when used from the backpack
- several heroes and items received technical fixes — for example, Bloodseeker’s Scepter had an incorrect cooldown, and Bounty Hunter revealed his position during Track even while invisible
- adjustments were also made to the animation and mechanics of Clockwerk’s Cogs, Clinkz’s skeletons, and other minor bugs
These changes do not involve direct hero balance adjustments but do affect the overall quality of gameplay.
The new patch also introduced changes to hero stats and abilities. One of the main fixes concerns Tidehunter, who had the highest win rate among all heroes after patch 7.40. Other heroes with high win rates, including Broodmother, Drow Ranger, and Huskar, were also slightly nerfed.
In addition, some heroes that were not very effective after the release of patch 7.40 were slightly improved. Among them are Pangolier, Brewmaster, and Spectre.
Patch 7.40b provided better game balance after the global update.
