IEM Sydney 2023, the first major tournament in CS2, is underway. We're still in the group stages, with Basket B competitors battling it out for spots in the play-offs.

We've moved past the debut stage of the championship, the first round of bo1 to 13 rounds. Now we are waiting for the more familiar bo3, where the roulette factor is minimal.

Let's talk about Cloud9 - Lynn Vision. Both clubs lost their first match and now will play in the lower grid for the right to stay at the championship.

We will try to figure out who will be stronger in this confrontation and will keep their place at IEM Sydney 2023, and who will have to say goodbye to the championship without having started their performance.

Cloud9 form

We open the match analysis with an analysis of Cloud9's form. In this match they will play as favourites with a rather serious gap: the odds on Cloud9's victory are at 1.12.

C9 has had a very good half-year. "Cloudy" celebrated their passage to the grand finals of ESL Pro League Season 17 and victory at the BLAST Premier: Spring European Showdown 2022.

Before Gamers8 Cloud9 attended another major summer tournament - IEM Cologne 2023. The most prestigious event went well for Cloud9: not good, but not bad either.

A very difficult Long Corner in Cologne forced Cloud9 to mobilise all their resources in order not to drop out at the group stages, and these resources were enough until the first round of play-offs, where C9 were defeated by Vitality.

Next, C9 visited Gamers8, but even there everything was not so good. At the TOP-8 stage the team faced ENCE, and they were unable to do anything against the overclocked Finns. And that's how they ended up in the TOP-8.

In their debut match at EPL Season 18, Cloud9 played against Eternal Fire. The Turks, being a cheerful team on paper, failed to outplay C9 at least on one of the cards: the match ended with the score 2-0 (16-11 Vertigo, 16-12 Eternal Fire).

In the play-offs match C9 faced Complexity. Being the absolute favourite of the match, Cloud9 failed to give CoL a fight and lost 0-2.

Cloud9's failures didn't end there. After getting into the net of the last chance of EPL Season 18, Cloud9 lost 1-2 to Liquid in a rather lacklustre manner, thus failing to qualify for the play-offs of the prestigious tournament. At the end of EPL S18, C9 finished in the top 20, which, to put it mildly, is weak for a top-tier team, which C9 was labelled as by literally everyone.

However, before the IEM Sydney IEM Long Convergence, C9 managed to rehabilitate themselves a bit for their mediocre performance at the last TOP tournaments. C9 won the BLAST Premier: Fall European Showdown 2023, earning them a slot at the BLAST Autumn Finals.

In their first match at IEM Sydney 2023, C9 played against Fnatic. Being the favourite, the "Americans" showed a good game, but quite limited: they had enough for 10 rounds and lost in the end.

Next is Inferno. On Inferno Cloud9 played 5 times, of which they won 3 matches.

Minus winrate on 4 maps at once: Ancient (42% wins in 7 matches), Overpass (33% wins in 3 matches), Anubis (3 matches, 33% wins), Mirage (2 matches, 0 wins).

Lynn Vision Form.

We continue the match analysis with the analysis of Lynn Vision's match form. The Chinese club is again in the catch-up status and again with minimal chances of success.

During the season the Chinese visited a lot of tournaments, the lion's share of which were local TIR-C events. But among them there were also very prestigious championships, such as Perfect World Arena Premier League, where Lynn Vision lost to Rare Atom in the final.

Other achievements include a Top 2 finish at the 5E Arena Asia Cup Spring 2023, with a repeat of the Perfect World Arena Premier League result and a grand final loss to Rare Atom, as well as ESL Challenger Series championships in the Asia-Pacific region.

Lynn Vision won ESL Challenger League Season 44 and took the top 2 at ESL Challenger League Season 45. At the latter, Lynn once again Ledgeili Rare Atom.

In the second half of the year, Lynn seriously recruited and started winning. The team won the XSE Pro League and qualified for the Intel Extreme Masters Sydney 2023.

Before the ESL Pro League Season 18 Long Convergence, Lynn Esports played at the Perfect World Arena Premier League Season 5: Professional Division. They managed to add another title to their collection by defeating 5yclone in the grand finals.

In the first match of ESL Pro League Season 18 Lynn Esports played against G2 Esports. It was a challenge, it should be noted, and being a total underdog in that match, Lynn Vision put up a fight on the first map - 16-19 Anubis. On the second, of course, was less happy - 5-16 Inferno.

In the match of the lower grid Lynn Vision played with Team Liquid. There was no fight - 2-0 in favour of the Americans. This is the end of Lynn Vision's journey in the ESL Pro League Season 18.

Before playing at IEM Sydney 2023 Lynn Vision visited ESL Challenger at DreamHack Winter 2023: Asian Open Qualifier, where they lost in the first round to Rare Atom.

Sydney's first match was played against ENCE. It ended pretty quickly, with ENCE winning 13-6.

Next is Inferno with 13 matches and 10 wins. Nuke (7-4) and Ancient (3-3) are playing.

Worst of all is Vertigo. There are 2 defeats there.

IEM Sydney 2023 for Lynn Vision has to end, and most likely it will end here. If the bottom set was played in bo1, I would still believe in a potential sensation, but in bo3 the Chinese have no chance. Cloud9 will take the match and I'm inclined to believe in a clean win for Cloud9.
