The preview of DreamHack Open Atlanta 2018

The championship by DreamHack will start in Atlanta soon. We will tell you about the event and a current state of participants of the tournament.

The general information

DreamHack Open Atlanta 2018 will be carried out at Georgia World Congress Center.on November 16-18. The prize pool of the event will amount $100,000 and Tier-2 and Tier-3 teams will be participants of the championship.

The format will be classic and usual for DreamHack tournaments in the Open series. Teams will play in the group stage by a GSL system. The first matches will be run in a bo1 format and the rest of them will be hosted in a bo3 format. The top two teams will advance from each group to the playoffs. The playoff stage will be carried out in a single elimination bracket and all matches will be played in a bo3 format.

The analysis of participants

Group A

Such teams as compLexity Gaming, eUnited, Luminosity Gaming, and Team EnVyUs were put in Group A.

Team EnVyUs seems to be an obvious underdog, at first glance, which hasn’t had a success on the professional stage for a long time. CS:GO Asia Championships 2018 was the last LAN tournament, in which EnVyUs took part. There, the American team placed 3rd-4th, not having beaten Natus Vincere.

eUnited and Luminosity, in our view, can be called favorites of the group. These teams have shown a good performance at the recently finished Intel Extreme Masters Chicago 2018. eUnited managed to beat the favorite of the tournament, the team Natus Vincere, with a score 16-6 and showed a good opposition in the match against Fnatic. In its turn, Luminosity Gaming defeated AVANGAR and eUnited without an effort. If LG repeats their success, they will guarantee themselves an advancement to the playoffs and will be one of the contenders for a victory at DreamHack Atlanta 2018.

If compLexity is related to underdogs or favorites of the group, we will determine this participant as an underdog. StarSeries Season 6 was the last tournament, in which compLexity competed. There, the Americans were the first to be eliminated and placed 15th-16th, having earned a money prize in the sum of $2,500 as a reward.

Group B

Such teams as Ghost Gaming, Fragsters, Rogue, and Team Vitality got in Group B.

All teams don’t inspire confidence, however, Ghost Gaming can be highlighted, which have held the 5th-6th place at the recently finished cs_summit 3 and earned a money prize in the sum of $5,250. The rest of participants of the group have had very bad results recently. We think that besides Ghost Gaming, each team has good chances to advance to the playoffs but we will prefer Team Vitality. The roster was created from two players of G2, two players of EnVyUs and one player of Against All Authority. It hasn’t achieved results but the tournament might be a good start for the team.

It will be very difficult to predict a champion of the tournament as it’s even very difficult to determine participants, who will advance to the playoffs. DreamHack Open Atlanta 2018 is a tournament with equal participants and not the gaming level of teams will influence a result of matches but the level of preparation for particular opponents and the level of preparation for the championship, in general.
