GamerLegion became the fourth team to leave the major after two wins at the start. Recall that the European team was eliminated from IEM Rio Major 2022, despite victories over 9z (16:6) and Vitality (16:10) on the first game day of the Challengers Stage. Up to this point, the history of the major has known only three such cases.

The first "loser" was the Chinese team TYLOO, which at IEM Katowice 2019 failed to keep the advantage. Then the team started with two wins over Vitality (16:8) and Cloud9 (16:3), but then lost to NRG Esports (0:2), AVANGAR (0:2) and G2 Esports (1:2).

The second similar incident happened to the Entropiq team at last year's PGL Major Stockholm 2021. The team dropped out of the championship after defeating Team Liquid (16:9) and Gambit Esports (16:9), as they then lost to G2 Esports (0:2), FURIA (1:2) and Vitality (1:2).

The last time the team was eliminated from the Major after two wins at the start happened at PGL Major Antwerp 2022. Then the forZe team started with victories over Renegades (16:9) and Bad News Eagles (16:7), but then lost to Vitality (1:2), Outsiders (1:2) and Imperial Esports (0:2).

Now the GamerLegion team, after starting victories over 9z (16:6) and Vitality (16:10), was left out of the Legends stage, having suffered defeats in a row from Bad News Eagles (0:2). BIG (0:2) and Cloud9 (0:2). According to the results of IEM Rio Major 2022, the team took 17th-19th place, earning $10,000.

Note that Cloud9, which eliminated GamerLegion from the tournament, became the ninth team that managed to make a comeback after two defeats:

  • North (ELEAGUE Atlanta 2017)
  • Cloud9 (ELEAGUE Boston 2018)
  • FaZe Clan (FACEIT London 2018)
  • ENCE (IEM Katowice 2019)
  • Renegades (StarLadder Major 2019)
  • Astralis (PGL Major Stockholm 2021)
  • Vitality (PGL Major Stockholm 2021)
  • Team Liquid (PGL Major Antwerp 2022)
