ESL introduced the rules for replacing players at IEM Rio Major 2022

Tournament operator ESL has presented the rules that teams should follow if it becomes necessary to make replacements in the roster during the IEM Rio Major 2022. In their set of requirements, the organizations noted that teams that have two or more players sick will be disqualified from the championship.

Each participant is obliged to play their stage matches if they reach them. This is an essential component of the tournament and no exceptions are allowed.

It will not be possible to play in isolation due to the huge difference in the environment of the tournament (for example, spectators, loud applause, stage audio system, etc.). All players must be on stage and any player who falls ill must be replaced.

Any team that fails to field five players from its registered six member roster will not be able to participate.

We understand that this decision actually means disqualification in the event of a massive illness within the team. After considering the issue from all angles, it was concluded that the sound, the audience and the computer setup on stage offered an advantage over playing from a hotel. In the interests of fair competition, we players should only perform on stage.

According to the organizers of IEM Rio Major 2022 will be the first CS:GO major, all three stages of which will be held with the participation of spectators, so this policy and rules will be observed from the very beginning of the event.

IEM Rio Major 2022 will take place from October 31 to November 13 in Brazil at the Jeunesse Arena and at the Riocentro convention center. As part of the championship, 24 teams from the CIS, Europe, North and South America, and Asia will compete for a prize fund of $1,250,000, ranking points in the BLAST Premier table, as well as tickets to BLAST Premier: World Final 2022 and IEM Katowice 2023 for the winner.
