IEM Rio Major 2022 in numbers
/IEM Rio Major 2022 will start very soon — the 18th major in the history of the discipline will finally reach Rio de Janeiro, presenting probably the most colorful championship. In the meantime, ESL is trying to secure the event from the pandemic, we invite you to get acquainted with the IEM Rio Major 2022 numbers that surround the upcoming championship.
IEM Rio Major 2022 will be the seventh major organized by the ESL tournament operator. In addition, the tournament will be the second under the auspices of IEM - after Katowice Major 2019.
IEM Rio Major 2022 dates:
- New Challengers Stage: October 31 - November 3
- New Legends Stage: November 5-8
- New Champions Stage: November 10-13
The youngest and oldest
It is likely that the upcoming championship will be the last major for several well-known players. Agree, some Brazilian legends will surely want to go into the sunset at the home championship. In general, we decided to remember for whom this championship will be a test of youth, and for whom it will be the last attempt, perhaps, to go down in history.
The youngest player at IEM Rio Major 2022 turned out to be Techno4K from IHC Esports — the guy is only 17 years and 5 months old. The second youngest is lauNX from the Sprout team (Romanian is only 17 and a half years old). They are followed by nqz - sniper 9z - at the time of the championship, the Brazilian will be 17 years and 9 months old. Let's not forget about w0nderful, which is only a few behind (Ukrainian is 17 years and 10 months old). Closes the top five of the youngest players in the try championship - the representative of 00NATION has only slightly crossed the threshold of 18 years.
Who can boast of experience? Here are familiar faces who were among the oldest at the last PGL Major Antwerp 2022. Karrigan (32 years and 6 months) is in the first place. Behind him is another Danish captain - Snappi turned 32 years and 4 months old. We must not forget about FalleN, who at the moment will turn 31 years and 5 months old. The TOP-5 of the oldest players at IEM Rio Major 2022 also included fer (31 years old) and apEX (19 years and 7 months).
What about teams?
Since we've talked about players, let's talk about teams. Perhaps there will be minimal changes here compared to PGL Major Antwerp 2022. Once again, we see Team Spirit as the youngest team - the average age is 20.5 years. The oldest team, despite a noticeable rejuvenation in the summer, remains Imperial Esports - 27.1 years.
Geography of IEM Rio Major 2022
Players from 35 countries of the world will take part in the championship. Cool, isn't it? And this is provided that at the last major, representation was limited to 28 countries. The largest representative will again be Denmark - 17 players. In turn, several countries will represent one player at a time: Great Britain, Spain, Switzerland, Serbia, Slovakia, Norway, New Zealand, Montenegro, the Netherlands, Estonia, Bulgaria, Finland, Hungary, Chile, Czech Republic and Belgium.
Among those who have either never played majors, or have not played in such major tournaments for a long time, will be the UK, Hungary, the Netherlands, Bulgaria, Belgium, Slovakia, Serbia, Spain and the Czech Republic.
Debutants
Here we are waiting for a whole scattering of players. First, there is the expected change of generations. Secondly, we saw several new teams. Below are all major debutants:
- FlameZ, Staehr, slaxz-, lauNX, try, buda, xertioN, JDC, s1n, iM, NEOFRAG, F1KU, mezii, fame, isak, nqz, torzsi, siuhy, FASHR, vexite, ANNIHILATION, HexT and w0nderful
At the same time, we will see three new organizations at once - OG, 00NATION and GamerLegion.
Old-timers and their records
Dupreeh was the only regular in the history of the majors in the history of the discipline - the Dane visited all 18 championships. Well, shox and Xyp9x, having missed the IEM Rio Major 2022, were left out of the record.
Speaking about the teams that have attended all majors, we should remember NAVI. Followed by organizations fnatic and Ninjas in Pajamas (15 appearances). Teams Cloud9 and MOUZ attended 12 Majors each.
Astralis remains the leader in the number of Majors won in history (ELEAGUE Major: Atlanta 2017, FACEIT Major: London 2018, Intel Extreme Masters XIII - Katowice Major 2019 and StarLadder Berlin Major 2019). Slightly behind fnatic, which has three wins. In turn, Virtus.pro, NIP, Cloud9, Gambit, NAVI, SK, LDLC, Luminosity Gaming, Team Envy and FaZe Clan have one victory each.
