Worlds 2025 Swiss Stage: How It Was

The Swiss Stage took place from October 15 to 25, bringing together sixteen of the world’s best teams — but only eight could advance. Teams that secured three wins moved on to the Knockout Stage, while those that lost three times were eliminated from the tournament.

Elimination and advancement matches were played in a Bo3 format using the Fearless Draft system, while all other matches were Bo1.

With these results, the following teams advanced to the Worlds 2025 Knockout Stage. Let’s take a closer look at some of the most surprising outcomes and key storylines from the Swiss Stage.

One of the biggest disappointments of the stage was Bilibili Gaming, who entered Worlds 2025 as the No. 1 seed from the LPL. Unfortunately, both for their fans and for the team itself, their performance was far below expectations. They managed to defeat only two opponents — Fnatic (Top 3 LEC) and Vivo Keyd Stars (Top 2 LTA) — but couldn’t maintain consistency throughout the tournament.

On the other hand, 100 Thieves were one of the pleasant surprises. They arguably had the toughest bracket among all participants, facing BLG, TES, HLE, and T1. Even so, they managed to secure a win against BLG. Despite the losses, most of their matches were very close. The team demonstrated excellent micro skill, but their macro play still needs improvement. They often created strong early leads, scoring plenty of kills and pressuring their opponents across the map — but then failed to convert that momentum into objectives. If they can fix this issue, 100 Thieves could easily aim for a Top 8 finish in the future.

And, of course, we can’t overlook T1. It’s been a tough season for them, and even the Swiss Stage wasn’t an easy journey. For the first time in many years of attending Worlds, T1 advanced to the Knockout Stage with a 3-2 record — whereas in previous years, they consistently finished the stage with dominant 3-0 or 3-1 runs.

What to Expect from Worlds 2025 Knockout Stage

The first round of the Worlds 2025 Knockout Stage looks incredibly intense, with teams being very close in skill level. Of course, it’s no surprise to anyone that Gen.G are considered the main favorites of the tournament — not just in their first match against HLE, but overall. The team is showing phenomenal form: excellent macro play, strong individual performances from every player, and, most importantly, perfect team coordination. Unless the infamous “Worlds magic” strikes and another team suddenly plays the best series of their lives, we fully expect Gen.G to reach the Grand Final.

As for T1, I’d love to see them in the final as well, but their performance during the Swiss Stage doesn’t inspire much confidence — especially considering their next opponent, Anyone’s Legend, who are in fantastic shape right now. According to analysts and commentators, AL are the last real hope for the LPL this year.

The matchup between CTBC Flying Oysters and KT Rolster should also be very close, and personally, I’ll be cheering for CFO. These guys not only earned their spot in the Top 8 — they have the potential to go even further. Their games are always exciting to watch, and I can’t recall a single series in the Swiss Stage where they looked like complete underdogs. KT Rolster are exactly the kind of opponent they can realistically beat.

Finally, G2 Esports vs Top Esports is shaping up to be another evenly matched battle. There are two key factors here: first, G2 have looked very solid throughout the tournament, both as a team and individually — their players make very few mistakes. Second, TES appeared inconsistent, especially before their final match against BLG. This means the outcome could truly go either way, but I believe G2 Esports have what it takes to come out on top.
