When Does the New LoL Season Come Out? Everything We Know So Far About League 2025 Season 2

The first season, dedicated to Noxus, went great — stylish theme, awesome rewards, and an engaging storyline. But very soon, League of Legends Season 2 (2025) will begin, bringing back the beloved Spirit Blossom atmosphere along with plenty of exciting new features. In this blog, I’ll walk you through the key changes and what to expect from the new season.

Theme of League of Legends 2025 Season 2

After the first season immersed us in the harsh lands of Noxus, the second season takes us to Ionia — more specifically, to the atmospheric Spirit Blossom event. Naturally, with the return of this thematic line, a whole wave of new skins is on the way. Champions like Yone, Irelia, Bard, Varus, Zyra, and Ivern will receive Spirit Blossom skins. Prestige versions will go to Lux and Ivern — available exclusively through the paid battle pass.

The map will also receive a visual update to better reflect the season’s theme.

But the biggest highlight of Season 2 is, of course, the release of A New Champion: Yunara. She was revealed in a cinematic trailer at the start of the season. There isn’t much confirmed information about her yet. Initially, she was expected to be a support, but some leaks surfaced on social media suggesting that Yunara might actually fill an ADC role. At this point, it’s all speculation — we’ll have to wait for her official release, which is planned for the second half of the season.

So when does the new LoL season come out? Very soon — just a couple of weeks away. The patch drops on April 30 and will bring most of the major updates with it. Some of the announced features will arrive later, during the second half of the season.

Gameplay Changes in League of Legends 2025 Season 2

A lot of gameplay updates are coming in the new season. Changes will affect Atakan, new Void objectives will appear, and much more. Let’s quickly go over the most exciting highlights.

Atakan

At the end of Season 1 (and in the mini-game Demon’s Hand), LeBlanc and the Black Rose once again captured the demon Atakan to use him for their own dark purposes. Now, he has only one form — Thornbound Prisoner, a symbol of his enslavement. However, the Blooming Abyss itself resists his corruption, and killing Atakan helps cleanse the map of his influence.

The developers tried to take community feedback into account, as balancing Atakan proved to be a real challenge — especially in pro play. Giving him a single form simplifies gameplay and fits better into the current storyline.

Just like before, Atakan spawns in the part of the map where PvP is most active. He still spawns blood roses at champion death locations and around his pit. Now, defeating him grants a new reward: all remaining blood roses on the map are instantly converted to your team’s side and transformed into spirit petals, increasing their effect by 25%.

In addition, your team gains the Spirit Cleansing buff for the rest of the match: when finishing off enemies, the surrounding area becomes sanctified — slowing, damaging opponents, and granting allies a spirit petal.

Balancing the Void: New Objective Rules

During Season 1, many players pointed out that neutral objectives demanded too much attention — especially in the early and mid-game. Their frequency and impact disrupted the game’s tempo and reduced match variety.

To address this, the developers removed the second spawn of Void Grubs. Now, they appear only once — and later in the game, so players can focus on the early lane phase. The maximum reward was also adjusted: only 3 Grubs can spawn per game, granting at most 1 Void Mite.

The Void Herald now spawns at 15 minutes — slightly earlier to better distribute objective timings before 20 minutes. The Shelly’s Gaze effect (which reduced champion damage) has been removed. In its place, the Herald’s damage has been increased, making the fight quicker and more manageable — though more punishing in terms of health.

Finally, the usability of the Herald’s reward has been improved — it’s now easier and more satisfying to use.

Reward System Changes

The reward system has been reworked this season. Bounty rewards now trigger less frequently — only when a team clearly holds an advantage in gold, experience, and map control. Base kill gold now scales based on the champion’s level, and a few smaller tweaks have been made to improve overall game balance.

Bounties are meant to help losing teams make a comeback, not reward those who are already ahead. For example, if Orianna has a 5/0 score but her team is behind, enemies will no longer receive bonus gold for shutting her down — only the standard amount, unless her team is actually leading.

Base kill gold now ranges from 250 to 400 depending on level, instead of being a flat 300. This gives underdog teams a slightly better shot at bouncing back when taking down higher-level opponents in drawn-out fights.

A couple of bugs were also fixed. Now, gold for ending a kill streak is granted immediately rather than after leaving combat, and bounty values automatically update whenever the overall advantage shifts — not just after someone dies.

Role Swapping and Position Locking

Some small but meaningful updates have been made for junglers and supports. Junglers now automatically receive Smite, and only one Smite is allowed per team (don’t worry, Unsealed Spellbook fans — your version of Smite is unaffected). Supports will now start the game with World Atlas as their default starting item.

These changes won’t drastically affect gameplay, but they help prevent awkward situations like “No Smite — gg” and simplify rules designed to prevent exploitative strategies like funneling or double-support item abuse.

You can now swap roles with teammates during champion select. So, if you’re assigned mid but want to play support, you can trade and jump into your usual role — ready to last-hit cannon minions, because you just can’t trust your ADC.

Additional Lane-Swap Rules

With recent updates, the approach to lane swapping has been refined. The goal is to keep lane swaps rare in pro play while minimizing their impact in regular matches. Supports can still roam to mid or top to assist allies, but not in a way that disrupts game balance.

Now, lane-swap rules are tied to the World Atlas item. These rules only apply in games with a jungler and are triggered if a support holding the item is on mid between 1:35–2:15 or on top between 1:35–3:00, alongside another non-jungler champion. In that case, the support is the one who receives a penalty.

Here’s what happens: the tower still gets its usual defenses, and the ally on lane receives full gold and XP. However, the support won’t be able to earn gold or XP from minions and won’t gain charges for World Atlas.

The system only activates if two non-junglers are present on the lane. So, if Zyra lingers on mid briefly, that’s fine. But once Lissandra returns — it’s time for the support to head back.

New Game Mode: Brawl

Brawl is a fast-paced mode where two teams of five players clash on a compact map. The goal is simple: take down enemies and help your minions push toward the enemy base to claim victory. No need for deep strategy here — just dive into the fight and deal as much damage as possible. Matches last around 10 minutes. It’s somewhat similar to ARAM, but with a twist: you can pick your favorite champion and forget about towers or other objectives — it’s all about non-stop teamfights until the end.

More Exciting Things Ahead

Of course, these aren’t all the changes coming in Season 2 — I’ve only covered the most important and, in my opinion, the most exciting ones. For full details, it’s best to check out the official League of Legends sources.

I really enjoyed the previous season, and the upcoming one looks even more intriguing. I truly hope it lives up to the standard — or maybe even surpasses it. Riot keeps raising the bar with every new season, making the game more immersive and exciting.

Can’t wait for Season 2 to begin — and I wish you all fun and thrilling games ahead!
