No Rest For The Wicked: How To Respec

In No Rest for the Wicked, the developers included the option to respec, or reset, your character’s stats. This feature allows you to redistribute points you’ve already spent, correct build mistakes, or experiment with new builds without having to start the game over.

How to Unlock Respec

To access respec, you need to meet a few conditions. First, progress through the story and unlock the Crucible. Respec becomes available only after reaching the “Cerim Crucible” mode, an endgame roguelike dungeon. You need to complete a series of quests to gain access to the Crucible.

Next, reach level 5 in the Crucible. At this point, you will encounter an NPC — either a merchant or Seneschal — who offers the option to unlock respec.

Finally, purchase the upgrade from the Seneschal. Activating the feature requires 20 Gloamseeds, a special green currency dropped by enemies in the Crucible. Once purchased, a Respec statue will appear at the dungeon entrance, allowing you to reset your stats.

How Respec Works

After activation, a Respec statue appears at the Crucible entrance. To use respec, interact with the statue to open the stat reset menu. To recover points, you need Fallen Embers, special items found throughout the game world. Each Fallen Ember restores roughly 10 stat points, which can then be redistributed. Once points are returned, you can reallocate them freely — you only need to confirm the new build.

Fallen Embers can be obtained by defeating enemies and opening chests throughout the world. They are especially common in the Crucible, where defeating foes often rewards you with them. Additionally, Fallen Embers can be earned as rewards from various activities across the game.

Changes in Recent Patches

In earlier versions of the game, Fallen Embers were required to enter the Crucible, but recent patches have removed this restriction. Overall, they are needed solely for respecs and for changing affixes on weapons. Because they are relatively rare, it is recommended to stock up on a sufficient number before attempting to change your build.

Tips for Using Fallen Embers

Respec is not available immediately at the start of the game — it must first be unlocked through the Crucible. If you want to experiment with builds early on, it may be easier to create a new character. Keep in mind that one Fallen Ember restores only a portion of your stat points, so it is wise to use them carefully and change your build only when you are certain. Once unlocked, however, respec can be performed multiple times as long as you have enough Fallen Embers.
