G2 Esports clearly did not spend this season as planned: the 3rd place in the spring and 4th in the summer split did not allow the team to go either to MSI 2021, or to Worlds 2021, all the more so. Many were shocked, as at the end of last season the European organization said goodbye to Perkz and took in his place one of the most powerful players in the world - Rekkles. They managed to lure the Swede away from direct competitors - Fnatic, but this did not bring any results, so what's the matter?

Problems everywhere... except mid

Oddly enough, but judging by the rumors, the management finds problems in every member of the team except Caps. According to various information, the new roster will be built around the current mid lane G2, and all other players are in danger. After the end of the summer split, Jankos said that so far all the players remain in the team, since each has a contract for at least one more season, but will CarlosR keep a roster that no longer matches the organization's ambitions for another year? I do not think.

If you look at the dry numbers, you can be surprised that all the players of the roster, except for Caps, are confidently keeping in the first half of the standings in terms of statistical indicators (kills, death, assistance, etc.), while the mid lane is very sagging... Rekkles is generally the best player in its position, so it will be the first "stone in the garden" to various rumors.

Unrealistic replacements

After we realized that it would be an extremely bad step for G2 to say goodbye to Rekkles, we need to consider all possible options for replacing the Swedish shooter. And... they are not. If G2 wants to return to the top of the European league, then they clearly should not look at other teams and the only possible way out for them is to take players from the second division. We are now seeing a similar positive experience with MAD Lions, but it takes time to implement this strategy, and the fans are demanding the result right now.

If we do not consider only one Rekkles, then problems also arise here, at least due to the fact that Team BDS is included in the LEC this year and they need to recruit a team, and this we still do not take into account other possible replacements that will definitely begin at the end of Worlds 2021.

This is the second reason why I do not believe that G2 will change their roster.

Or maybe it's all about the coach?

The only scenario that I can consider as quite possible for myself is a kick from GrabbZ from the position of a coach, who has not been able to adapt to the new meta. He was good at working with the team earlier, but in the 11th competitive season everything changed a lot and it is not always possible to understand what will be winning games for you.

As an opposite example, YamatoCannon can be considered: he coached Team Vitality and SANDBOX Gaming, but unsuccessfully, but after a roster change and big changes in 2021, he was able to help Fnatic rehabilitate after losing in the spring split and is now going to Worlds 2021.
