Real-Time Pickpocketing Revealed for Highly-Anticipated Sci-Fi RPG Starfield
Bogdan LashchenkoWhen you think of the sci-fi setting, you picture spaceships, futuristic weapons, perhaps some slightly goofy gear to help survive a different atmosphere, and aliens aplenty. Crafted by Bethesda, everyone knows that Starfield will be coming with so much depth that you can make space gaming play out however you want.
Still, even with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim fresh in the memory, perhaps pickpocketing wasn’t one of the things that people expected to not just come to Starfield, but be refined by the development team. Best of all, the September 6 release date of the upcoming RPG puts it at the prime time to entice sci-fi fans to try out his crafty new mechanic.
Microsoft and Bethesda luck into a great time for sci-fi
Starfield was always set to be a massive release because of the years of hype and having Bethesda behind it, but popular themes of the day always help to play a part in sales. Now, across gaming, sci-fi is regularly a popular setting. You only have to click here to check out the top online sweepstakes casino sites and see an abundance of sci-fi games.
Space Miners is the top of the lot, but that’s not to say that the likes of Rocket Stars and Monster Superlanche don’t have their fans. Still, there are games that are always available to play, helping fuel the ongoing sci-fi fandom. What’ll really kick it up a notch just after Starfield’s launch could be The Creator.
As detailed on this page, we’ve been craving a film like this for some time. Written and directed by Gareth Edwards – the director of the only coherent post-2005 Star Wars movie – it’s high-sci-fi, AI taking over, lots of action, and boasts a superb cast of John David Washington, Gemma Chan, and Ken Watanabe. Releasing September 29, if it takes off as it should, it could give another shot in the arm to Starfield sales.

We’ve also already had some stellar releases in the sci-fi genre to whet the appetite for Starfield. Everspace 2 is proving to be one of the highest-rated games of the year on PC, as is Aliens: Dark Descent. While Kerbal Space Program 2 didn’t land quite as well in Early Access, there are also high hopes for Falling Frontier. At the end of the year, however, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora might just arrive to compete with Starfield – landing on December 7.
It’s the details that fans get excited for
For most major game releases, something as slight as a pickpocketing mechanic wouldn’t be enough to make headlines or get players excited. When it comes to Bethesda games, though, it’s these little details and smaller optional interactions that make the experience special. So, learning that the pickpocketing mechanic has been upgraded will only increase the hype.
By following this link, you can see that some gameplay has revealed a new format for pickpocketing. Now, you don’t have the open windows for the victim’s pockets there infinitely. Instead, the NPCs are being protected by pickpocketing being done in real time. If they’re awake, aware, and your skills aren’t up to scratch, the window of opportunity will be slight.
It’s a great addition to the sprawling experience that will be Bethesda and will hopefully run well at launch. Further showing dedication from the fans, one has reportedly spent some 200 hours working out the full extent of the skill trees in the game. While they may be a bit off, this also speaks to the sheer depth of the space game.
Soon, we’ll all be treated to Starfield, and at a time when sci-fi will be flying high and even be bolstered further across the entertainment industry.
