Playing video games has been around for a long time. Today, the quality of games is staggering, as technology has advanced so much over the decades. But who remembers the classic games that were so popular in the 90s?

Many of the video games of the 90s were among the first that many people got to play. Their graphics and sounds were perhaps not always the best, at least when compared to today's technology. But there was something about them that kept you playing over and over again.

Many people will remember some of the games they played in their youth, be it board games, video games or outdoor games. Thinking about them, many different emotions come to the surface, such as warm longing or even nostalgia. You can even look back on them with some amusement when you start to compare them more closely with today's games. The most nostalgic games from the 90s

PC games were quite popular in the 90s, it was perhaps even their best time. Computers were becoming commonplace in many households at the time, so it's no wonder that gaming with them also became popular.

Many people could spend hours at a time playing their favourites such as Doom, Civilization 2, Half-life and Heroes of Might and Magic 2, many of which were very popular for their fast-paced gameplay, intensity and strong storytelling. They also had a certain amount of excitement, strategic gameplay and humour.

Another classic for many will have been the Grand Theft Auto series, the first instalment of which was released in 1997. Compared to today's series, it was very different. Although the story was very much the same, the game had a top-down perspective. The missions were carried out in the same way as today and there were radio channels in the cars for all tastes.

Known as a legendary game in the MS-DOS days, Prehistorik 2 blew many gamers away. It was a fun platformer where the protagonist was a caveman searching for food while fighting animals and other level characters. Each level also had passwords hidden in different parts of the game, which of course everyone was desperate to find so they didn't have to start from scratch.

Familiar from the smartphone app store and online casinos, the Hugo game drove many people crazy in the 90s because it was on TV. Many people are familiar with the witty utterances of the woodpecker from the competition on TV. The game required a landline phone, the keys of which were used to run Hugo around the TV screen, trying to dodge a variety of obstacles while trying to save Hugoliina, the troll's wife. The further Hugo travelled, the better the prize for the viewer.

In addition to video games, the 90s were also a time for board games. Who doesn't remember playing Monopoly, Uno or Yatzy? There were also quiz games like Trivial Pursuit. And with a pen and paper, it was also handy to play crossword or ship's betting. At a dinner party, the owners of a deck of cards could play poker, seven of a kind, a bag of berries, shitpots or crosswords as a group.

Many games later evolved even further

Just as many games of the 90s are a continuation of the games of the 80s, many of today's games have evolved from the 90s. Many familiar series of games have had many sequels that are still played today. However, technological advances have made them even better in terms of sound and graphics.

Classics such as Super Mario, once played on Nintendo, can now be played on consoles. And there are already several versions available today. The same applies to many other games.
