Neutral items in Dota2

Neutral items are artifacts, which drop from neutral creeps. They can’t be bought, sold, or destroyed but can be given to an ally.

Every player can use only one neutral item in a special slot. The unused ones can be put in a stash, which is located near the fountain.

The first neutral items appeared in patch 7.23 on 26.11.2019. Since then, there have been many changes both in the drop system and the list of items.

So, neutral items are divided into five tiers. Each of them drops during particular periods.

Unlike the first two patches, the actual version organized the drop system and it is under control of certain conditions now:

  • To drop a neutral item, a hero has to stay near a creep within a radius of 750 but there must be no enemy hero within a radius of 1200
  • Also, an item will not drop if the hero, which has killed a creep, is using Town Portal Scroll
  • One particular item can drop for one team only once.
  • A team can drop 5 neutral items of each tier during a match. What will it be? The pseudorandom system decides.
  • When an item is dropped, it lands near the hero who dropped it. So, if you are playing Ember Spirit and you are flying on remnant at the moment of killing, a neutral item will drop in the place you land.

Time limits and the drop rate

Five tiers of items and five time periods of item dropping:

  • 7-17 minutes – the first-tier neutral items drop during this period
  • 17-27 minutes – the second-tier neutral items drop during this period, if not all five neutral items of the first-tier have dropped, the first tier will also keep dropping
  • 27-37 minutes – similar to the previous description, the third tier and the previous ones are dropped
  • 37-60 minutes – the fourth tier and the previous ones, which have not dropped
  • 60+ minutes – the fifth tier and all the previous ones, which have not dropped

The stash for neutral items

Each team has its own stash of neutral items near the fountain, which is available for all team players. There are two ways to put a neutral item into the stash:

  • put it on the ground near the fountain
  • teleport it to the stash by using the right click on the item

Teleporting to the stash is available all over the map, the process is instant.

Only up to 5 neutral items of each tier and the items found by your team can be stored in the stash. Because there is an ability to steal a neutral item from your enemy but you can’t put it in your stash. The teleportation of this item will just move it to the fountain.

Besides storing items, the stash also displays the current status of all neutral items found by a team:

  • an item is in the stash - the icon of the item is displayed
  • an item is in the player’s active slot (the hero icon is displayed)
  • an item is in the player’s backpack (the shadowed hero icon is displayed)
  • an item is in the player’s stash (the shadowed hero icon is also displayed)
  • an item is in the player’s courier (the shadowed hero icon is also displayed)
  • an item is on the ground or stolen by the enemy (the shadowed icon “unknown” is displayed)

Heals the attacker for 7 HP on each attack.

Can find a Bounty Rune, a Flask, an Enchanted Mango, or an enemy Kobold.

  • Tumbler's Toy

An antique plaything found in the ruins of an Ozenja circus bazaar.

Active Ability: Vault

Cooldown: 15 sec.

Propels your hero forward 300 units. Tumbler's Toy gets disabled for 3 seconds if its owner receives damage from a player source.

Active Ability: Consume

Restores 500 health and 250 mana to the target over 6 seconds.

If the unit is attacked by an enemy hero or Roshan, the effect is lost.

  • Faded Broach

A life-saving jewel bestowed upon a young queen by a kindly vizier.

  • Iron Talon

A simple but effective weapon devised to quell a great Hellbear uprising.

Active Ability: Chop

Cooldown: Targeting a tree puts the item on a 4 second cooldown, instead of 25 seconds..

Targets a non-player enemy unit to remove 40% of its current HP.

If cast on a tree, instantly destroys it.

  • Royal Jelly

Targets the ground to plant a mango tree that provides unlimited mango power. The tree generates Enchanted Mangoes every 60 seconds, and provides unobstructed vision in the area.

  • Poor Man's Shield

A busted old shield that seems to block more than it should.

+8 Agility

Passive Ability: Damage Block

Gives a 100% chance to block 30 damage from incoming attacks on melee heroes, and 20 damage on ranged.

Has a 50% chance to block damage from creeps.
