LoL New Patch 25.24: WASD Controls, Ranked Season Updates, Champion Changes, and More

The final League of Legends patch of the year has arrived from Riot Games. 2025 was packed with memorable updates that brought fresh modes, tons of rewards, new lore, skins, and major shifts for both casual players and professionals. While fans enjoyed new content, the pro scene had to adapt to Fearless Draft, meta shakeups, and new champions.
Patch 25.24 closes out the 2025 season, and it doesn’t introduce any massive system changes. Riot clearly saved the big surprises for next year. For now, let’s break down everything included in the new League of Legends Patch 25.24.
The Third Ranked Split Is Coming to an End

The third Ranked Split of 2025 is wrapping up on January 7, 2026 at 23:59:59 server local time – right as Patch 15.24 comes to a close. As usual, all ranked queues will be disabled for about 12 hours to prepare the game for the start of the new cycle.
The first Ranked Split of 2026 begins on January 8 at 12:00:00, following a full reset of ranks and LP.
With the end of the third split, the entire 2025 ranked year officially concludes. Players will receive rewards based on the highest rank they achieved throughout the year. The rewards include:
- Victorious Draven
- Skin chromas
- Victorious skin frame (requires owning all three 2025 Victorious skins)
- 2025 Ranked Emotion
- 2025 Ranked Icon
All rewards will be granted in Patch 26.1. Full details about the 2026 ranked system will also be revealed in the 26.1 patch notes.
For now, it's the perfect time to grind out your final games and finish the season at the highest rank you can reach.
WASD Movement in the New LoL Patch 25.24
Patch 25.24 expands Riot’s ongoing WASD movement test. The control scheme is now available in several casual modes across most regions, though it remains disabled in Ranked and Draft Pick for now. The rollout starts in Oceania, with other regions following shortly after.
Since WASD is still in beta, Riot may temporarily disable certain champions or modes if issues arise. In this update, WASD does not work for Briar or Taliyah. Whenever WASD is disabled for a champion or queue, controls automatically revert to standard click-to-move.
Supported queues:
- Normals: Custom games, Normal Draft, ARAM
- Modes: Arena, ARAM: Chaos, ARURF
New WASD features:
- Dynamic Camera - the camera shifts toward your mouse cursor, with adjustable movement speed.
- Scout Mode - holding the middle mouse button temporarily unlocks free camera movement.
- Full key remapping for WASD controls.
Riot will continue gathering data and player feedback, so any bugs should be reported through support channels. Most likely, fully polished WASD controls will arrive in Ranked sometime next year.

Champion Select Updates in League Patch 25.24

Riot have also finished testing two key improvements to Champion Select: banning protection for allied picks and a faster pick phase overall. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive, so both features are now being fully implemented across all regions.
- Players can no longer ban champions their teammates intend to pick.
- The accelerated Champion Select flow, originally tested in Patch 25.23 for North America and Oceania, is now enabled globally.
These changes noticeably speed up the pre game phase, reduce unnecessary conflicts, and make the start of each match smoother and more consistent.

League of Legends Patch 25.24 Champion Changes
No League patch arrives without champion adjustments, but Patch 25.24 is relatively light in terms of game shaking balance shifts. A handful of champions received targeted buffs or nerfs, mostly aimed at smoothing out outliers rather than redefining the meta.
| Champion | Changes and Description |
| Braum | +20 HP; passive strengthened: follow-up hits deal 40% instead of 20%. More durable and stronger in extended skirmishes. |
| Dr. Mundo | Q damage to monsters reduced (350–650 ⇒ 300–600). Targeted nerf to jungle Mundo. |
| Kayn | Nerf to Shadow Assassin: bonus magic damage after mitigation lowered from 25–45% to 20–40%. Rhaast unaffected. |
| Kha'Zix | Base W damage reduced (85–205 ⇒ 75–195), slowing early jungle clear. |
| Master Yi | -15 HP; AD growth reduced from 2.8 to 2.5. Early- and late-game slightly weakened. |
| Mell | E nerfed: reduced damage, shorter duration, higher mana costs. Larger adjustments planned for early 2026. |
| Nasus | +19 HP; Q base damage increased by +5 at all ranks. Easier stacking and stronger laning. |
| Nidalee | Bug fix: bonus Q damage at range now starts at 0%, not 30%. Melee-range damage unchanged. |
| Sejuani | Reduced cooldowns, lower mana costs, stronger AP ratios on Q/W/E; R cooldown reduced. |
| Swain | Passive heal per fragment increased from 3–6% to a flat 6%. Better sustain across roles. |
| Viktor | Q shield increased to 40–140 (+25% AP) from 40–115 (+18% AP). Multiple bugs with damage and shield values fixed. |
| Zaahen | Nerfs to passive (lower bonus AD per stack) and Q (lower ratios, lower base damage, longer cooldown). Monster damage ratio increased (50% ⇒ 75%). E slightly weakened. |
| Zed | Passive damage to monsters reduced (2× ⇒ 1.8×). Slower early jungle clear. |
ARAM: Chaos – mode updates
The patch also brings the final ARAM: Chaos update of the year. According to Riot, the mode turned out to be unexpectedly popular – the developers noted how actively players experimented with augmentations and how crazy some of the combinations looked in matches.
The patch adds several prismatic augments from Arena, but adapted to the fast pace of ARAM: Chaos. Some of them are available to only one player per match to prevent excessive chaos and keep fights readable.
Absolute Awakening has also been reworked. Its concept remains the same – enhancing the transition from ultimate ability power to basic abilities – but now the effect has a noticeably stronger impact on skirmishes and feels more useful.
The mode also receives two items from Arena, fitting multiple playstyles and allowing champions to be played differently than in regular ARAM.
Overall, the update is solid and makes Chaos even more diverse, and Riot promise to continue experimenting with the mode next year.
League Patch 25.24 Summary
For the final patch of the year, Patch 25.24 turned out to be solid. Alongside various changes, we also received a good batch of holiday-themed skins. Riot are actively preparing players for the new 2026 season and have saved the most exciting updates for after the holiday break. So now we wait for the new season, which, judging by the LoL Dev Video, should be even more interesting than the 2025 season.
