How to Unlock Scholar in Nightreign DLC Forsaken Hollows

Nightreign Scholar enters Elden Ring’s Forsaken Hollows as a support-focused Nightfarer built around debuffs, shared damage, and consumable scaling. The DLC ties his arrival to a sequence of Roundtable Hold events that activate after defeating Tricephalos. Scholar and Undertaker form the core access points to the new bosses and the Shifting Earth encounter. The class adds a control layer missing from the base roster and anchors the DLC’s progression structure.

Elden Ring: Nightreign DLC Forsaken Hollows

Forsaken Hollows expands Nightreign with two Nightfarers, two bosses, and the Great Hollows event, all gated behind strict prerequisites. Bandai Namco confirmed that players must defeat Tricephalos, recruit both Scholar and Undertaker, and unlock the chapel behind the Small Jar Merchant before the Balancers fight appears. The DLC launched on December 4 across PC and consoles, arriving with Update 1.03 and a rolling release window that gave PC users several hours of early access.

Scholar: Nightreign New Character

Scholar operates as a precision support class with Arcane as its defining stat and thrusting swords as its primary weapons. Bagcraft enhances consumables through repeated use, Analyze builds layered buffs or debuffs depending on the target, and Communion links enemies for shared damage while redistributing healing between allies. His movements emphasize spacing and controlled pressure, and his toolkit favors coordinated combat where observation leads to incremental advantage.

How To Unlock Scholar

Scholar unlocks after clearing Tricephalos and triggering a short sequence inside Roundtable Hold. Speaking to Iron Menial activates a message from the Small Jar Merchant, whose west-wing door leads into the Dreglord encounter already underway with Scholar and Undertaker engaged. Regardless of the fight’s outcome, the door reopens afterward, allowing players to recruit both Nightfarers.

  • Defeat Tricephalos and Gladius
  • Speak with Iron Menial
  • Meet the Small Jar Merchant
  • Enter the door and trigger the Dreglord event
  • Return to recruit Scholar and Undertaker

Both characters must be unlocked to progress toward the Balancers and access the Great Hollows event.
