League Patch 25.17: Spirit Blossom 3 Event, Battle Pass Rewards & Major Updates

The 3rd season kicked off on August 27, bringing a major patch packed with updates. Developers returned the standard map, reintroduced Nightmare Bots, gave Xin Zhao a visual overhaul, launched a new Battle Pass, and improved jungle camp timer tracking. The patch also includes various quality-of-life adjustments, bug fixes, ARAM balance changes, and a Glory reset in Arena mode. And that’s just part of it — let’s dive into the details.

Start of the Third Ranked Season

The third ranked season began on August 27 at 12:00 local server time. LP progress and ranks have been preserved, with only the mission for the Victorious skin resetting — players will need to secure 15 ranked wins to earn it.

During the season transition, ranked queues were disabled for about 12 hours. Rewards for the second season will be distributed a few days after the new season’s launch.

It’s also important to note that account transfers were temporarily disabled near the end of the season. This feature will return once all season rewards have been granted.

Atahan and Xin Zhao Update

In this patch, Atahan received a weapon. This change affects only his visual appearance and has no impact on gameplay mechanics, but it could hold significance for fans of the game’s lore.

Xin Zhao received a full visual update: his models, animations, ability icons, voiceover, visual and sound effects, splash arts, and skins were all refreshed. With this update, the price of the Commando Xin Zhao and Imperial Xin Zhao skins has been increased from 520 RP to 750 RP to reflect their improved quality. Players had the chance to purchase them at a discount before the update went live.

Additionally, Xin Zhao’s vaulted skins have been temporarily brought back and will remain available until the end of Patch 25.18.

Finally, a brand-new champion theme for Xin Zhao will be released on August 29.

“Nightmare Bots” Mode

With the release of New League Patch 25.17, the Nightmare Bots mode returns to the game. This is a PvE mode where a team of five players fights against Veigar and his army of empowered bots. The goal is simple — survive for 15 minutes and then defend your nexus in a final showdown with Veigar himself.

The updated version introduces Nightmare Trials — special variations with altered mechanics. Different trials will be available across the first three patches, and in the final one, all three will be active at once. Players who manage to complete every trial will earn the exclusive title “Definitely Not a Bot.”

The first trial is called “Veigar’s Evil.” In this mode, all nightmare bots gain Veigar’s passive — Phenomenal Evil Power. Each time they land an ability, they gain adaptive force. On top of that, Veigar’s curses no longer expire; instead, they stack. By the 15-minute mark, 10 different curses will be active at the same time.

To give players a fighting chance, item haste has been increased and a special prismatic item — the Crown of the Demon King — has been added to the shop.

The mode emphasizes teamwork and strategic planning, so prepare carefully if you want to overcome the challenge of “Veigar’s Evil.”

Improved Match Information Tracking

Over time, many third-party apps appeared around League, helping players with builds, runes, stats, jungle camp timers, or summoner spell cooldowns. However, since only some players had access to this information, it created an imbalance.

Developers agree that this should be fair for everyone. As a result, certain third-party app functions will be restricted, while key features — such as timers and other useful info — are being added directly into the client. This way, every player will have equal access to the same tools.

Jungle Camp Timers on the Minimap

In the past, players had to rely solely on observation to track monster respawns. Later, timers were added through the TAB screen, but one of the most popular third-party app features remained minimap timers. With this patch, they are now officially part of the client.

There are two display modes:

  • Basic mode — timers are shown only for epic monster camps. For other camps, hourglass icons appear on the minimap 30 and 10 seconds before respawn. A full list of timers is still available by holding TAB.
  • Advanced mode — timers for all camps are always visible. This option can be toggled in the “Interface” section of the settings.

This change makes the minimap clearer and more informative without overcrowding it. For junglers, it means more precise pathing and planning, while the whole team can better coordinate around key objectives.

Damage Recap and Summoner Spell Tracking

Developers continue fine-tuning the balance between useful information and fair play. Previously, third-party apps lost access to enemy ultimate cooldown data, and now the same restrictions apply to summoner spells. Tracking them is still up to players, but new in-game tools make team coordination much easier.

The damage recap now shows not only the abilities and items that dealt damage but also summoner spells — including non-damaging ones like Flash or Teleport. Players can ping these spells directly from the recap or scoreboard, and the chat will display a message like “Jinx uses Flash.” This makes reacting to crucial moments much faster and keeps teammates informed.

The recap itself has been moved to a more convenient spot on the screen, gained a hide/show option, and now includes contribution stats such as damage dealt, crowd control applied, and gold earned.

Key changes:

  • Recap relocated on the screen with a hide/show toggle.
  • Displays all summoner spells and ultimates used against you.
  • Ability to ping spell usage, which creates a team chat message.
  • Within 15 seconds of an enemy casting a spell in vision, it can also be pinged via the scoreboard.
  • Added contribution stats: damage, CC applied, and gold earned.

Personally, this is one of my favorite parts of the update due to how practical it is. I’ve already tested it in a few games, and it helps a lot — from tracking cooldowns to adjusting item builds on the fly.

Item Changes in Patch 25.17

Patch 25.17 also introduced a few tweaks to underused items. The goal is to make them more appealing so that players will consider buying them more often. Only three items were adjusted this time — Axiom Arc, Hextech Alternator, and Ravenous Hydra.

Axiom Arc — Developers felt this item was too weak for a legendary-class item, which is why AD assassins rarely build it. To address this, its cost has been reduced to allow assassins to reach their power spikes faster when picking up Axiom Arc.

Hextech Alternator — Another item that felt underwhelming compared to similar options. It received buffs to make it more attractive:

  • Ability Power: 115 ⇒ 125
  • Total Cost: 2800 gold ⇒ 2750 gold
  • Recipe: Fiendish Codex + Fiendish Codex + Blasting Wand + 250 gold ⇒ Fiendish Codex + Fiendish Codex + Blasting Wand + 200 gold

Ravenous Hydra — This item has long been considered too weak for AD assassins looking to snowball early. To strengthen it without making it overpowered, developers applied the following adjustments:

  • Attack Damage: 60 ⇒ 55
  • Total Cost: 3200 gold ⇒ 2850 gold
  • Recipe: Tiamat + Pickaxe + 663 gold ⇒ Tiamat + Pickaxe + 313 gold

Overall, these changes look reasonable and balanced on paper — but time will tell how they impact the meta in practice.

EGW’s Opinion on New LoL Patch 25.17

Patch 25.17 turned out to be a really solid one. Riot continues their efforts to balance champions and move away from the narrow champion meta we often see in pro play, while also making these champions more appealing in solo queue.

The new timers and damage recap deserve special mention. They make the game much more convenient, especially for newcomers, since players no longer need to constantly memorize spawn timings or rely on third-party apps. This allows everyone to focus more on actual micro and macro gameplay.

And of course, the new battle pass is worth highlighting. In my opinion, it’s one of the better ones we’ve seen — finally including skins that feel genuinely desirable without being locked behind excessive grind or cost. Hopefully Riot keeps this momentum going and continues to deliver updates that make fans happy.
