This dizzying rise is largely due to the boost offered by the months of confinement, since it is an activity that can be carried out remotely. Countries like Mexico, Peru, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador and Argentina have made great progress.
Likewise, audiences grew considerably in the region, consolidating the scene and allowing the development of new talents; Game competitions like Free Fire, Dota 2, League of Legends and Valorant managed to shine during 2021.
On the other hand, in countries like Mexico, where there are a total of 72.3 million gamers, eSports bets are even beginning to gain ground in regional tournaments. Without a doubt, esports has become one of the industries with the highest growth rate in recent years.
Electronic sports: economic growth opportunity for Latin America
In Latin America, the gamer population exceeds 397 million people. Thanks to this mass of players, the electronic sports industry has had a significant growth rate, witnessing a greater number of leagues and events held in the region, sponsored by important companies.
The Latin American League (LLA) has established itself as the highest professional League of Legends competition, being sponsored by TV Azteca. Thus, we could give different examples of competitions that have contributed to the industry raising USD $1,084 million during 2021 worldwide, of which USD $6,800 million were generated in the region.
The above data reflects the interesting opportunity for economic growth that electronic sports represent for Latin America. Over the years, the video game industry has managed to transform itself from a mode of entertainment, to an authentic machinery in a constant process of expansion.
Brands such as Adidas, Burger King, Master Card, Microsoft, Intel, Puma and Movistar are just some of those that have decided to bet on the gaming and eSports industry, being a tempting market for companies looking to expand their marketing efforts., have not hesitated to hang on to the trend.
Valorant is the new cyber sports trend
RiotGames has promoted Valorant within eSports in Latin America, for which they have decided to adopt the regional competition format known as 'Challenger Leagues'. These consist of a series of tournaments to be held in the northern and southern hemispheres of the continent, bringing together the best six teams heading to the Masters.
There will be two competitive stages, each with ChallengerLeagues, under a round robin format. Only the teams that are part of the Top 4 Global will have the opportunity to play face-to-face days, from which a champion will be taken who will travel to another country in search of the Masters. The Valorant season has been ongoing since February 10.
