5 Highly Anticipated Gaming Monitors of 2023
Bogdan LashchenkoGaming monitors have entered a new stage of evolution with the start of 2023. The OLED panels are finally becoming a common approach among top brands for designing new and upcoming monitors. Moreover, the companies are also trying to go beyond the 360Hz refresh rate mark, but that won’t be becoming mainstream before the OLED panels.
Constant technical innovations have changed the gaming landscape dramatically over the last few years. When it comes to immersion, there is no other form of entertainment that can surpass the video games of today. While you can still play casual games online, the competitive scene of FPS games is a whole other world. While specialty games like bingo online provide a low-pressure environment for gambling, FPS games spike up your adrenaline with a highly competitive gameplay.
Esports, in particular, has played a key role in monitor brands making every possible improvement, no matter how small, to their new models.
The incorporation of OLED technology in gaming monitors has made it possible to achieve incredibly fast response times, even more so than the usual 1–5 ms IPS panel attributes. To that end, we have compiled the following list of 5 highly anticipated gaming monitors of 2023.
ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM
Asus' ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM features a 27-inch 1440p OLED panel with 240 Hz refresh rate. The monitor has 0.03 ms (GTG) response time, which means users will see no noticeable ghosting or overshoot behind fast-moving objects. It boasts a peak brightness of 1000 nits and a color gamut that covers 99 percent of DCI-P3. Asus also advertised that it has a custom heatsink for superior thermal performance and voltage customization options to reduce OLED burn-in.
Until now, most OLED panels were only seen in big TVs and ultrawide screens. With this upcoming monitor, gamers are overly excited to finally see the technology being implemented in regular-sized monitors. The monitor is available for pre-order in a few selected regions. It is expected to be released in a couple of months with a price tag of around $1300.
Acer Predator X27U
Featuring a 240Hz refresh rate and AMD FreeSync Premium support, the Predator X27U comes with a QHD (2560 x 1440) OLED panel. The monitor’s 26.5-inch flat panel has a peak brightness of 1,000 nits, as advertised, but since it has an OLED display, you should not take that number at face value. It has a response time as low as 0.03 ms and comes with dual 5-watt speakers. For the outer design, the monitor has very slim bezels on all sides, but in-person, the bezels will certainly not look like their press images. The monitor is priced at $1,099 and will be released sometime during the second quarter.
LG Ultragear 27GR95QE-B
Another 27-inch OLED monitor in this list, LG’s Ultragear 27GR95QE-B, offers the same features as previously listed monitors, but the specs are not perfectly matched. This monitor has HDMI 2.1 support which is missing in the Predator X27U. With a response time of 0.03 ms (GtG) and 1440p resolution, the monitor is Nvidia G-SYNC compatible and also has FreeSync certification. The monitor’s ergonomic design not only lets you make height adjustments but also swivel and pivot it according to your needs. The monitor is available on Amazon and LG stores for $999.
Asus ROG Swift Pro PG248QP
The ROG Swift Pro PG248QP is by far the most exciting monitor on this list, it is truly built to take professional gaming to the next level. So, what is it that makes this monitor stand out? It features a fierce 540Hz refresh rate pushing the boundaries of pro gaming. For the specifications, the monitor has a 24-inch FHD (1080p) Esports TN panel display. The ROG Swift Pro also has support for NVIDIA G-SYNC. Asus unveiled this monitor during CES 2023 alongside the OLED offerings. Not much about its specs and price is known at the time of this writing. The monitor will be available in the market from the second quarter of 2023.
