Welcome to EGamersWorld.
From June 27 to July 13, the Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2025 is taking place in Vancouver, Canada. Ten teams have been competing for $2,000,000 and a slot at Worlds 2025.
Today, July 12, 2025, only two contenders remain. In the grand final of Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) 2025, Gen.G will face T1. The winner will earn $500,000 and secure a Worlds 2025 spot.
Let’s break down whether T1 can defeat their biggest and most fearsome rival, and whether Gen.G can become back-to-back MSI champions.
Let’s get started
How the bookies view it: Gen.G favorite
Before the MSI 2025 grand final begins, let’s see who enters the match as the favorite. Here, things are fairly simple: Gen.G are once again the favorites, just like in the upper bracket final between these same teams at MSI 2025.
Bookmakers give Gen.G an average win odds of around 1.5.
Gen.G form. What result can be expected from T1
We begin our breakdown of the MSI 2025 grand final by analyzing the current form of the reigning MSI champions – Gen.G.
In 2023, Gen.G confidently won the LCK Spring 2023, leaving no chance to T1 in the grand final. MSI 2023 wasn’t as fortunate, where Bilibili Gaming sensationally knocked the Korean champions out of the finals.
- Gen.G roster: Kiin, Canyon, Chovy, Ruler, Duno.
At LCK Summer 2023, Gen.G reached the playoffs without much trouble. In the group stage, the Korean powerhouse lost only 2 series and finished 2nd with a 16-2 record.
In their first playoff match, Gen.G crushed HLE 3-0. They were ready for another shot at the league final.
The grand final was a rematch of the qualifier to reach it. Previously, Gen.G edged out T1 3-2 in a very close series – and the final was similar.
But Gen.G won that final even more convincingly: they became LCK Summer Split champions by beating T1 3-1.
Worlds 2023 started with a confident win over Gam Esports. It was fast and painful for Gam: 22 minutes and just 5 kills for the Vietnamese side.
In the 2-0 seeding match, Gen.G faced none other than T1 – their fiercest rival. The Korean derby, as in the previous four matches, went Gen.G’s way. Chovy’s Akali left no hope for T1.
Gen.G reached the Worlds 2023 playoffs with a 3-0 group stage record. In the final group match, they easily defeated G2 Esports 2-0.
Despite being one of the favorites, Gen.G failed to live up to expectations and lost in the very first playoff round against BLG.
The 2024 season started with a tough LCK Spring match against T1. The reigning champions handled it with confidence. Then came a match vs Nongshim RedForce, which Gen.G were expected to win easily.
After winning LCK Spring 2024, Gen.G attended the season’s first international tournament – Mid-Season Invitational 2024 – and won the title.
As MSI 2024 champions, Gen.G entered the Esports World Cup 2024, where they lost their first match and finished in the Top-8. During LCK Summer 2024, the team was dominant again and qualified early for playoffs with a 12-0 score.
Gen.G breezed through the LCK Summer 2024 regular season with a 17-1 record. They picked DPlus KIA as their playoff opponent, not T1. In the debut match, they crushed their opponent 3-0. However, in the grand final, they stumbled and lost to Hanwha Life Esports 2-3.
At World's 2024, they beat WBG and Top Esports, qualifying for playoffs with a 2-0 seeding. In the playoffs, they defeated HLE 2-0 again.
Their first playoff series was against FlyQuest – which became a full Bo5 where Gen.G narrowly won 3-2. Then came T1, and Gen.G lost 1-3, exiting at Top-4.
The 2025 season began with the LCK Cup 2025 in the Elder Group. Gen.G finished the group 3-2. Thanks to the new format, they advanced to the semifinals. There, they lost to HLE 2-3. In the lower bracket, they narrowly beat Nongshim RedForce 3-2, then swept DPlus KIA 3-0. In the grand final, they lost to HLE again 2-3, finishing second.
On the Road to MSI 2025, Gen.G dominated the regular season with an 18-0 record. They then beat HLE 3-2 to qualify for MSI 2025.
At MSI 2025, Gen.G started the Knockout Stage with a 3-1 win over G2 Esports, then beat Anyone’s Legend 3-1. In the upper bracket final, they narrowly defeated T1 3-2 to reach the grand final.

- T1 roster: Doran, Oner, Faker, Gumayusi/Smash, Keria.
LCK Summer 2023 was a challenge. T1 barely made playoffs, finishing 5th in groups with a 9-9 score.

That proved crucial. T1 beat Dplus, then faced KT Rolster, who picked them as opponents – and won 3-2.
In the playoff qualifier, T1 led 2-1 against Gen.G but couldn’t finish. Gen.G came back, with Chovy outperforming Faker.

In the 1-0 pool, T1 faced Gen.G – their kryptonite. Despite a good start, Gen.G adapted and won.
Then came Cloud9, who were completely stomped. T1 followed with a 2-0 over BLG, the MSI 2023 runners-up.
In the playoffs, T1 swept LNG 3-0. Scout, once the tournament’s best, had no answer.
In the semifinals, T1 faced JD Gaming, a tournament favorite. The Chinese squad fell 1-3. T1 made their 6th Worlds final – and won their 4th title, setting a historic record.
In LCK Spring 2024, T1 started well but dropped to 15-3 and 3rd place. In the playoffs, they lost 0-3 to HLE, beat DPlus KIA 3-0, and took revenge on HLE 3-1 to reach MSI 2024.
At MSI 2024, T1 placed 2nd in the LCK. They breezed through Play-In, beat G2 3-2 in the Bracket Stage, but lost to BLG 1-3. They then beat Liquid and G2, but lost to BLG again 1-3.
They paused LCK Summer 2024 at 5-1 to play at the Esports World Cup 2024 – and won it, defeating TOP Esports in the grand final for $1,000,000.
T1 returned to finish LCK Summer with an 11-7 record and 4th place. In the playoffs, they beat KT, lost to HLE, beat DPlus, and lost to HLE again, finishing Top-3.
They qualified for Worlds 2024 through the regional finals, narrowly beating KT 3-2.
At Worlds, they lost to Top Esports, beat paiN Gaming and BLG, and beat G2 to reach the playoffs.
In the playoffs, they swept TES 3-0. Then finally beat Gen.G 3-1 – their first win over them in a year – and won the grand final vs BLG 3-2 to become five-time World's champions.
In 2025, they topped Baron Group 4-1, beat Nongshim RedForce 2-0 in Play-In, but lost to HLE in the first playoff round (Top-6 finish).

Recent head to head: Gen.G edging it
In the 2025 season, Gen.G have won 3 out of 4 matches against T1, including their MSI 2025 upper bracket clash.
Players to Watch: Faker and Chovy
Just like in the MSI 2025 upper bracket final (played on 07.10.2025), the main stars of the match will be Faker and Chovy. The midlaners know exactly what it takes to win, and their head-to-head is always a must-watch.
Predicted result of the match T1 – Gen.G at MSI 2025
Based on the first half of 2025, T1 haven’t quite looked like international champions. However, Faker and the squad have made it to the grand final – which means they’ve earned it, and they’re here for a reason.
Beating Gen.G will be incredibly difficult given their recent history and dominance at MSI. Expect a close battle – but the edge goes to Gen.G.
Prediction tip: Gen.G win.
