Match Prediction: FlyQuest - PSG Talon | LoL

We continue to talk about what's happening at the Mid-Season Invitational 2024. We're talking about the Play-In stage matches.

Play-In at Mid-Season Invitational 2024 (MSI 2024) is the opening stage of the first international tournament in the 14th competitive season of the League. It will determine the 4 participants in the main tournament of MSI 2024.

Among the contenders are PSG Talon and FlyQuest. They will play each other in the first round of Play-In MSI 2024, and we will try to find out who will be stronger.

PSG Talon uniforms

Let's start the match analysis with PSG Talon's form. In this match they will play as the number one.

PSG Talon had a pretty easy time qualifying for Worlds 2023 under the Taiwanese quota. Roughly speaking, they simply had no competition in their region.

During the year, PSG Talon were twice crowned champions of PCS home tournaments. They won at PCS Spring 2023 and PCS Summer 2023.

In addition to regional successes, PSG Talon has been consistently recognised at the international level. And they have been doing so since their appearance on the competition scene, i.e. 2020.

At the Worlds series championships the results are as follows: TOP-12 at the 2020 Worlds, TOP-11 at the 2021 Worlds. Skipped the Worlds last year, finishing in the Top 3 on the home stage for the first time. Still appeared at MSIs, where the best result was a top-3 at MSI 2021. Incidentally, they also travelled to MSI this year, but couldn't jump above the top 9.

Worlds 2023 PSG Talon started with a confident victory over Rainbow7. The Mexicans were able to last less than an hour on two maps.

They continued it with a win over LOUD. PSG Talon easily shut down the Brazilians with a score of 2-0, thus becoming the only team not to lose a single map at the Play-In.

In the match for the next round PSG Talon played against BDS and after leading 2-0, lost 2-3, thus falling out of favour at Worlds 2023.

In the 2024 season, PSG Talon first finished Top 2 in the PCS Spring regular season and then triumphed in the play-offs, shutting out HAWKS 3-0 in the grand finals.

Most Popular PSG Talon Champions

The most popular and successful top line champion remains Gragas (3 matches, 100% wins), and also Kennen (3 matches, 66% wins).

Wukong (6 games, 33% wins) and Sejuani (4 matches, 100% wins) play in the forest.

The centre line is played with Ahri (4 matches, 0% wins), Tristana (3 matches, 100% wins) and Syndra (3 matches, 100% wins).

The ADC position is most often occupied by Lucian (4 matches. 50% wins), Aphelios (4 matches, 75% wins).

Nami (3 games, 66% wins), Thresh (3 matches, 100% wins) are often paired with shooters.

FlyQuest Form

We continue the match analysis with the analysis of FlyQuest's playing form. The Americans will play the second number, though with a minimal gap.

FlyQuest have been on the professional scene since 2017. Back then, they hung around somewhere in the middle, ranking from top 7 to top 7.

The following years were also unsuccessful: in 2018 the peak was TOP-6 at LCS Summer 2018, then TOP-4 at LCS Spring in 2019. The turning point was the 2020 season, when FlyQuest made it to the Worlds 2020 after twice making Top 2 at home. However, it wasn't too bad to take special heights there, though: TOP-12 for a FlyQuest ranked team can be considered a success.

In the season 2021 and 2022 the team played "standard" for themselves. The average was top-6.

At LCS Spring 2023, the team finished second in the group stage, losing to Cloud9. The team won the group stage with a score of 14-4.

• FlyQuest lineup: Bwipo, Inspired, Jensen, Massu, Busio.

The team lost to the leaders of the standings Cloud9, Evil Geniuses, Team Liquid and TSM. However, having played each of the teams twice, FlyQuest took one match each.

The team had no net defeats in the group stage. The team did not participate in any third-party events.

In the first match of the play-offs FlyQuest played with 100 Thieves. The opponent, who nominally could compete with FQ, was unable to take even a map: the match ended with a 3-0 defeat in favour of FlyQuest. After a successful Long Sogpeg, FlyQuest made it to the Top 3 before losing to Golden Guardians 2-3 in the finals match, thus being left out of Worlds 2023.

In 2024, FlyQuest made it to the LCS Top 2 and eventually made it to MSI 2024.

FlyQuest's most popular champions

FlyQuest play KSante (9 matches, 66% wins), Sion (4 matches, 50% wins), Jax (2 games, 100% wins) and Renekton (2 matches, 100% wins) in the top 2.

The forest picks are Maokai (5 matches, 80% wins), Sejuani (4 games, 25% wins), Vi (4 matches, 100% wins), and Amumu (3 matches, 100% wins).

The centre line has the most variety. Sylas (4 matches, 75% wins), Azir (2 matches, 100% wins), Akali (2 matches, 50% wins), Annie (2 matches, 100% wins), Ahri (2 matches, 100% wins).

Zeri (4 games, 75% wins), Aphelios (3 matches, 33% wins), Lucian (2 games, 50% wins), Caitly (2 matches, 100% wins), Kaisa (2 matches, 100% wins) take the ADC position.

Lulu (3 games, 33% wins), Rakan (2 games, 100% wins), Soraka (1 game, 100% wins), Nami (1 game, 0 wins) appeared in the PSurport.

Previously, the teams have not played each other in these squads. This will be the debut match of the clubs.

Predicted result of PSG Talon vs FlyQuest at Mid-Season Invitational 2024 (MSI 2024)

In this match I expect an even game. In my opinion, both teams will play about the same, and therefore there is every chance to see a full-fledged Bo3. That's my bet, although if we call the winner, I still lean towards PSG Talon's success.

Bottom line: total +2.5/ victory for PSG Talon.
