The reason for this altruistic act on the part of Riot is due to the lack of an opportunity for teams to come to the League of Legends World Championship due to the coronavirus pandemic. At the moment, we still do not know how many dollars the total prize pool of the 2020 World Championship will be. In addition, Riot Games has yet to launch skins that will fund the 2020 World Championship prize money.

Riot Games said in a press release that LoL developers will strive for fairness in sharing the rewards. In past tournaments, winners received much higher rewards than all other participants in the championship, since the main amount of the main prize was not the share of the prize money, but the sale of personal skins of players from the winning team. By the way, they were released every year. This time the organizers will reduce the share for the first place, slightly equalizing the distribution between the participants. Thus, the rest of the teams participating in the League of Legends World Championship will receive more than the teams earned last year.
