Malmö and Sweden
What will the final in this city mean?
I think you yourself have already witnessed more than once how this or that final of an esports competition was held somewhere in Sweden. “But why is that?” you ask. I think it's fair to call Sweden the analogue of South Korea in Europe. It was Sweden that was one of the first to take esports seriously, and also created directions in training related to it. But most importantly, according to a 2018 study, Sweden was the 2nd country in Europe in terms of the number of viewers at esports events.
Malmo, on the other hand, is the third largest city in the country and is located directly opposite the capital, only 19 kilometers away, literally in the very South of Sweden, which is very convenient for other Europeans.
Malmö Arena is a 12,500-seat stadium that has hosted everything from hockey matches, national competitions, to concerts by Rihanna, Rammstein and others.
“We are incredibly proud to host the League of Legends European Championship in Malmö. This shows once again that Malmö is a city of events and games to be reckoned with, ” said Mats Schöld, Head of Events at the Leisure, Recreation and Sports Department of the City of Malmö.
