Interest in esports events has been growing all over the world for more than ten years. It becomes even bigger and bigger every year.
The organizers increase the number of tournaments and prize pools every year and investors actively take part in the creation of new esports teams, investing big money in them.
League of Legends (LOL) is one of the most popular games in the world.
The main trend of the popularity is given to this discipline by Asian esports fans.
Many various League of Legends tournaments of different scale are hosted. The list of the most expected tournaments includes Mid-Season Invitational (MSI) – the most important competition of the middle of the season for LOL fans.
MSI has been carried out by Riot Games since 2015, so the tournament will be hosted for the fifth time. The competition can be said to celebrate its first anniversary.
The venue and dates of the event
In 2019, Mid-Season Invitational 2019 will take place in two countries: Vietnam and Taiwan. The Asian continent will carry out the tournament for the second time, the PRC was the host of second competition in 2016.
The tournament will be held in three stages. The qualifying round will take place in Hanoi where all matches will be hosted on May 10-14. The National Conference-Centre, which can include about 4000 bright esports fans, will be a venue for the stage. The playoff stage, which will decide the winner of Mid-Season Invitational 2019, will be carried out at the basketball hall Hepin in Taipei, which was built for 2017 Summer Universiade. By the way, this hall may include even more viewers than the arenas of the previous stages. A bit more than 7000 fans will be able to visit every day of the playoff series.
Tickets on matches went on sale in March-April and every single one of them was bought in a short time. The fact that the organizers have made a decision not to sell more than 4 tickets to one person reflects a high interest of fans to MSI 2019.
Participants of Mid-Season Invitational 2019
13 teams will take part in the tournament, which represent all competitive regions. The distribution of slots in groups was interesting. The champions of China, South Korea, and Europe have become the owners of invitations to the main bracket of the tournament, which get rid them of playing in the qualifying round. The rest ten teams will play their first matches in the qualification, on the outcome of which participants of the group stage will be determined.
Eight teams have been divided into two groups in the preliminary round:
- The first of them includes 1907 Fenerbahce (Turkey), Isurus Gaming (Argentina), Bombers (Australia), and Phong Vũ Buffalo (Vietnam)
- The representatives of CIS, the team Vega Squadron, which has won the Spring Split of the Continental league, has been put in the second group. The rest three participants of the second group are Detonation FocusMe (Japan), INTZ e-Sports (Brazil), and MEGA (Thailand).
The format of the tournament
The winners of the groups will face in the elimination matches against Team Liquid (Netherlands) and Flash Wolve (Taiwan). Losing teams will determine one more participant in the duel match. Three teams to pass the qualifiers will divide the main prize in the final stage of the tournament in the battle with the representatives of China (Invictus Gaming), South Korea (SK Telecom T1), and France (G2 Esports).
The participants of the tournament will have what to fight for because the cheque on a pretty significant sum will be added to the best esportsmen’s glory. It’s known that the general prize pool of Mid-Season Invitational 2019 is equal to 1 million of the USA dollars.
