Match Prediction: Gaimin Gladiators - Ooredoo Thunders | Dota 2
DPC 2023 Tour 2: WEU Division I (Upper)DPC 2023: WEU Upper Division - Tour 2 continues. The second game of the day is on display and will showcase a 3 match series.
The first game sees the tournament debut of Nigma Galaxy and Entity, before moving on to the Gaimin Gladiators - Ooredoo Thunder match. Let's talk more specifically about the latter.
The clubs have already started their journey to DPC 2023: WEU Upper Division and have started it in very different ways. GG have outplayed their main rival for the title, while Ooredoo Thunder have lost to one of the key outsiders.
GG, the top 2 of the first round, approach the match with a win in their pocket. The team won two cards out of two.
Ooredoo Thunder are newcomers to the first division, having made it there from the second. The team will approach the match with a loss on two cards in the first game.
Let's see if there is anything that can help Ooredoo Thunder contend with the Lima Major 2023 champions.
Gaimin Gladiators Uniform
We begin the analysis of the match with an analysis of the Gaimin Gladiators' form. The team is widely regarded as the favourite for this match.
I don't see the point in challenging the pre-match position. The difference in level between the teams is too enormous.
The bookmakers agree, because then they wouldn't give odds of around 1.2 for a GG win. Probably, they could have given you less, of course.
The Gaimin Gladiators line-up
"The Gladiators expectedly retained their line-up after their triumph at the Lima Major 2023. Quinn, who replaced BOOM, seems to have fitted nicely into the Gaimin Gladiators' midfield role.
Gaimin Gladiators players
- DyrachYO
- Quinn
- Ace
- tOfu
- Seleri
Giving all the laurels of winners to the Gaimin Gladiators corsets, namely DyrachYO with Quinn and Ace, you can forget about the duo of soppers. And that's for nothing.
From the first game of DPC 2023: WEU Upper Division - Tour II, it is clear that the duo of tOfu and Seleri are contributing the lion's share to the team's success. TOfu in particular stands out, setting the pace for the Gladiators in the early stages of the game and wielding a wide pool of tools to do so.
Gaimin Gladiators performance
GG finished the first season of Western Europe in second place. The team won 5 games out of 7, thus securing their position.
In addition to DPC they played in outside tournaments. One of these was the BB Xmas Show where the gladiators tried out their new line-up. They did it tastefully, winning the grand final of those very Team Spirit.
The club then played the BB Universe - Comics Zone. This time they failed to repeat the success of Xmas Show: Team Spirit knocked out GG, leaving them in 3rd place.
Having qualified for the Lima Major 2023, they easily won the championship. After winning Group A the team was determined for the final play-offs.
The team had not lost a single card in the main stage of the Lima Major 2023. The Gaimin Gladiators easily defeated Team Aster, Entity and twice beat Team Liquid (in the top-seed and grand final).
The winning streak over the Liquid continued in the new DPC season. In the opening game of the second round, the Gaimin Gladiators shut out Team Liquid 2-0.
Gaimin Gladiators heroes
The most successful characters were Treant Protector and Rubick (7 games and 77% of wins each).
Nature`s Prophet has also been picked 9 times, but has "only" 55% of wins. Other frequent picks for Gaimin Gladiators are Lina (8 matches, 75% wins), Undying (7 matches, 85% wins), Broodmother, Puck and Batrider (6 matches, 83% wins).
From the looks of things, the meta won't change much in the patch. Heroes of the past still appear in spades with minor changes: Sniper, Puck, Clockwerk, Undying, Nature`s Prophet in place.
Ooredoo Thunder uniforms
Let's move on to a review of the Ooredoo Thunders outfit. They're only looking at the train at the end of the tunnel in this match.
The bookmakers have absolutely given up on the odds of OT winning, which is certainly true. The odds for an Ooredoo Thunders win are around 6.5. It seems simply impossible to give more than that.
In the case of Ooredoo Thunders, the pre-match situation says less about their incapacity than it does about the level of the Gaimin Gladiators in the new season. The teams are trivially different in size and there's nothing you can do about it.
Ooredoo Thunders line-up
Ooredoo Thunders have a fighting line-up, naturally. Otherwise the team would not have made it to the top division, because it is not easy, even if it seems the other way round.
OT players
- TA2000
- No! ob
- Wuiter
- OmaR
- Kaori
Ooredoo Thunders have some very experienced players, but that experience was generated in low-level championships and local leagues, which goes against the local environment. It's too early to judge from the first match, but it seems Ooredoo Thunders won't be able to make much of a name for themselves, and the only thing they can learn from playing in the second round of the Western Europe top league is practice against top teams.
Such practice will be useful in OT's future endeavours, but it too is shrouded in obscurity. It is unclear whether the team will have the patience to remain playing in a similar roster after the soon-to-be-failed first round.
Ooredoo Thunders' performance
Ooredoo Thunders finished first in Western Europe's second division. The team finished 6-1 on the series and 13-3 on the cards.
They managed to outscore Ancient Tribe, Alliance, Water Rune Enjoyers, IVY, Alliance and Bald Reborn 2-0. One card in Ooredoo's winning games was picked up by D2 Hustlers, while they lost to Monaspa
Apart from DPC matches, Ooredoo Thunders have been active in third-party events. The team won the local European Pro League Season 6, and finished in the top 6 at BB Universe: Episode 1 - Comics Zone.
In the first game of the new series, the Ooredoo Thunders faced a repeat of last week's Division 2 clash. The Greeks from Monaspa beat their international counterparts 2-0.
Ooredoo Thunders heroes
The Ooredoo Thunders play the classic Dota of patch 7.32. The most coveted character is Rubick (29 matches, 86% wins).
Clockwerk (19 matches, 73% wins), Tiny (17 matches, 82% wins), Death Prophet (17 matches, 76% wins), Treant (17 games, 70% wins) and Phoenix (17 matches, 58% wins) are popular.
History of head-to-head encounters
The teams have not previously played each other in head-to-head encounters. This experience will be the first.
Result of the match
No need to say too much here. GG will take the game away with a 2-0 score.
I don't see how OT can take the card from the Gaimin Gladiators, who we saw in the first series against Liquid, for example. I admit that in this game GG can play "one handed" and even then will be much stronger.
Bottom line: 2-0 in favour of the Gaimin Gladiators.
Bookmakers & Statistics
All bookmakers have agreed that Gaimin Gladiators is the favorite. This can be noticed because odds on them are 2.854. This number in the favor of Ooredoo Thunders amounts 4.351. Respectively, the last ones are the underdogs of the upcoming match.
