Esports news OpTic Gaming
In brief:
OpTic Gaming is an American esports organization. The club is mainly known thanks to their Call of Duty subdivision, however, later the organization got new rosters that represented the club in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Dota 2.
Now we are to walk you through the short history of the Dota 2 subdivision
First Appearance
OpTic debuted in Dota 2 pretty late according to the tempo of the development of the discipline. The organization decided to get a roster in the popular MOBA game only in 2017.
For good effect, OpTic decided to sign a promising mix with famous players. The dice rolled to The Dire consisting of:
- Pajkatt
- CC&C
- zai
- MiSeRy
- ppd
The five players represented OpTic till November. They tried to get the right to participate in such tournaments as Captains Draft 4.0, DreamLeague Season 8, MLD Macau, but they stopped halfway everywhere as all those events resulted in 3rd-4th places at the qualifiers.
In November 2017 the roster faced their first changes. The roster dismissed MiSeRy, and his slot was given to Saksa.
The first replacement was fruitful. OpTic managed to win Midas Mode – North America and got qualified for Galaxy Battles II, however, the team did not perform at the tournament.
In December, OpTic took second place at ROG MASTERS 2017, and after that failed DOTA Summit 8, taking 6th-7th place there.
At the end of 2017, the team welcomed 33 in the roster.
Beginning of 2018
The season of 2018 started with numerous qualifiers for OpTic. The team was disqualified at ESL One Katowice 2018 NA Qualifier, took 3rd-4th place at StarLadder i-League Invitational #4: NA Qualifier, won the qualifiers for The Bucharest Major, finished second at the qualifiers for GESG: Indonesia Dota 2 Minor and won ESL One Katowice 2018 North America Last Chance Qualifiers.
A bit later OpTic got really close to winning Dota 2 Asia Championship 2018 – NA Qualifiers and EPICENTER XL: North America Qualifier. There the team took second and third places respectively.
At the end of February, OpTic debuted at their first Major tournament. The team performed at ESL One Katowice 2018, however, they were unable to climb high. OpTic finished at the 9th-12th position, and then they set out to get prepared for The Bucharest Major.
In Bucharest the team performed much better as they took 5th-8th place. It made OpTic motivated to continue working.
AFter The Bucharest Major, OpTic again was to go through a series of qualifying tournaments. The team performed at the qualifiers for MLD Changsha Major: NA Qualifier, StarLadder ImbaTV Invitational #5 North America and GESG: Thailand Dota 2 Minor.
At the first quals, OpTic finished second, and the second qualifiers brought the team a victory and they took third place at the third quals.
Then they took part in Dota 2 Asia Championship 2018. At the third Major tournament for the organization, the team took 7th-8th place which was definitely a good result.
Brief Success and Rapid Decline
After the performance at Dota 2 Asia Championship, OpTic won StarLadder ImbaTV Invitational Season 5, and later got qualified for ESL One Birmingham 2018. A streak of successful performances went on and the team took third place at the qualifiers for China Dota2 Supermajor: NA Qualifiers which was enough to join the participants in the Major tournament.
ESL One Birmingham 2018 was the best Major tournament for the team in the history of the club. In Birmingham OpTic was able to make it to the grand final where they lost to one of the best teams of that period – Virtus.pro.
After the success at ESL One Birmingham 2018, OpTic performed at China Dota2 Supermajor. There the team took fifth-sixth place.
After two rather good tournaments, the team proceeded to participate in the qualifiers for The International 2018. In that year North America was represented by three teams at the main tournament of the year and it worked for OpTic’s benefit.
Having taken third place at the qualifiers for The International 2018, OpTic provided themselves with a slot at the main tournament of the year.
Before TI, the team finished 5th-6th place at DOTA Summit 9. The first world championship in the club’s history, The International 2018, brought OpTic 7th-8th place.
Even though the results were rather good, it was not enough for the management of the club and the players. The International 2018 was the first and last for OpTic.
In September 2018, OpTic disbanded their Dota 2 roster.
Organization and Awards
The founders of OpTic are Ryan Musselman and Hector Ridgriquez who is also a СЕО of the organization.
