Esports news CDEC Gaming
In brief:
CDEC is a Chinese esports organization in Dota 2. CDEC has become another example of the highly-developed organizational infrastructure of the Chinese region in Dota 2. The club emerged as a consequence of the split with the parent organization LGD in October 2014.
We present to your attention the history of the creation of CDEC’s Dota 2 branch.
The first appearance
As it was mentioned previously, the esports community heard about CDED for the first time in 2014. Initially, CDEC was playing under the colors of LGD and was called accordingly – LGD.CDEC.
In October 2014, the players of CDEC decided to create their own organization, having parted ways with LGD. The newly created club left the past name and the first roster included:
· Agressif
· Maybe
· 333
· Q
· Garder
The team demonstrated in the first months that it could compete on one level with top teams.
The first results and the second place at The International 2015
In 2014, CDEC participated in a few championships where it proved itself decently. The team held the 3rd place at MSI Beat IT 2014, the 2nd place at National Electronic Sports Open 2014, and the 2nd position at G-League 2014.
With the beginning of the new competitive season, there were minor changes in the team: 333 left the team and mikasa temporarily switched his coaching position to an active player slot. With the updated roster, CDEC continued playing at various tournaments.
In January, the team placed 4th at Dota 2 League Season and also managed to qualify to Dota 2 Asia Championship 2015. However, CDEC faced a devastating failure at the championship: the team stopped in the last places, being the first to be eliminated from the championship. The result of the performance at one of the most titled tournaments of that year led to roster changes: Maybe and mikasa left the roster and their spots were taken by shiki and xz.
The roster updates after Dota 2 Asia Championship 2015 were definitely useful for the team.
Starting from June, CDEC had a series of good performances. They held the 2nd place at ECL 2015 Dota 2 Spring, World Cyber Arena 2015 – Chinese Pro Qualifiers, G-League 2015. But the most remarkable one was the performance at The International 2015 where CDEC came, having prevailed at the Wild Card tournament.
The team managed to advance to the final at the World Championship 2015, what is more, it made it through the upper bracket. However, CDEC did not achieve victory and held the second place.
The team continued participating in international tournaments after The International.
CDEC held the 3rd-4th place at ESL One New York 2015 and MLG World Finals. Later, the Chinese team had a series of tournaments with worse results. They placed 5th-6th at Nanyang Dota 2 Championships, The Frankfurt Major 2015, World Cyber Arena 2015, and Dota 2 Radiant & Dire Cup 2015. CDEC finished the year with the victory at ECL 2015 Dota 2 Autumn.
The period of decline and searches for an optimal roster
CDEC faced problems in 2016. At the beginning of the year, they held the 5th-8th place at Shanghai Dota 2 Open and also failed the qualifiers to MDL 2015 Winter – Chinese Qualifiers. However, the 13th-16th place at The Shanghai Major 2016 was an even bigger blow. CDEC changed its roster drastically after that.
Agressif was the first who left the team, after that Shiki and Xz were moved to the youth roster. Rabbit, Super, and Yao replaced the departed players.
However, the arrival of new players in the team did not solve the situation. CDEC continued losing after that.
The first tournament, at which CDEC managed to win the first prize money, was the championship National Electronic Arena 2016 where the team held the 3rd place. Then, there was the 7th place at Dota2 Professional League Season 1 and the 2nd place at Pro Gamer League 2016 – Summer.
However, a few good results were clouded by the 7th-8th place at VPGame Pro League Season 2. After this championship, changes were coming in CDEC again.
Initially, Yao left the team and his example was followed by garder and Super a bit later. As a result, CDEC decided to completely change the roster for the new season.
The searches and mad reshuffles continued in CDEC
The new CDEC roster included young and prospective players:
· Flyby
· Shade
· June
· September
· Demons
But they were not that lucky to change the permanent tendency of low positions at tournaments. The team failed the qualifiers to The Boston Major 2016 and ESL One Genting 2017.
At the beginning of 2017, Inflame joined the team instead of Shade. But the change did not change the situation again.
CDEC failed the qualifiers to The Kiev Major 2017, The Manila Masters, StarLadder i-League Invitational #2. Inflame left the team in May and CDEC continued losing. CDEC was behind TI once again, failed the qualifiers to ESL One Hamburg 2017, StarLadder i-League Invitational #3, and a row of other big and not that big tournaments. All these events led to «the mad reshuffle» in September 2017.
June was the first to leave the organization, then Flyby followed him, September and demons left the team later. Shade also left CDEC at the end of September.
The new roster was assembled at the beginning of October. It included:
· ISI
· Newbie
· XuAn
· Sea mew
· SangSang
And CDEC did not normalize their results again. The best performance of the updated roster was the 8th-9th place at Dota2 Professional League 2017 S2: Top.
Victoria joined the team in December, he replaced Sea mew in the team.
The situation did not change at all in 2018. Constant reshuffles did not stop and the results left much more to be desired. That year, the team earned a bit more than 6,000 dollars of prize money even though it took part in more than 20 tournaments.
The years 2019-2020
The condition of CDEC changed a bit only in 2019. The following players were listed on the roster at the beginning of the year: Eve, Xm, Newbie, Liekkas, and RAI.
CDEC managed to place 1st at World Cyber Games 2019 China Finals, 2nd at ZBT invitational, and it was one step away from getting to The International, having lost to RNG in the final of the qualifiers with a score of 2-3.
The team held the 1st place at Asia Communication League Season 2 in September and had a series of successful performances at smaller tournaments in October-November.
2020 traditionally began with roster changes. Ame joined the team initially and 123 arrived in the team instead of Srf later.
The updated roster of CDEC managed to reinforce its position in the region a bit. The team held the 4th place at ESL One Birmingham 2020 – Online: China and achieved victory at OGA Dota PIT S2: China. However, the results became worse once again with the departure of srf and Ame.
CDEC revealed the new roster in December 2020, it included:
· Earth
· Blood
· Beyond
· Yds
· 起风了
CDEC managed to make it to the lower division of DPC Season 1: 2021 with the renewed roster.
The organization and rewards
Ddc is a coach and a captain’s slot is held by 起风了.
Previously, CDEC operated two additional rosters: CDEC Youth and CDEC Avenger. The first one has been inactive since 2016 and the second one - since 2019.
CDEC works with VPGAME, which is a general sponsor of the team.
Since the creation of the team, the Dota 2 rosters have brought more than 3,600,000 dollars of prize money for the organization.
