Denmark's Culture Minister Proposes Ban on Russian Esports Players at PGL Major Copenhagen 2024

Denmark's Culture Minister, Jakob Engel-Schmidt, has expressed that Russian gamers should not be allowed to participate in the upcoming CS 2 PGL Major Copenhagen 2024. This development was reported by sport.tv2.dk journalists.

Engel-Schmidt highlighted that russians are currently barred from international sports competitions, arguing that esports should adhere to similar guidelines. He has put forward this viewpoint to both the PGL, the tournament organizers, and the Royal Arena stadium administration, the venue for the major's playoffs. However, there has been no response from the championship organizers to inquiries from another Danish media entity.

According to Berlingske newspaper reports, Denmark has tightened its visa policies for russians since February 2022, categorizing russia along with Syria and a few other nations as places where citizens face more stringent foreign document acquisition processes.

In September 2024, Copenhagen is slated to host The International 2024 for Dota 2, though the precise tournament dates remain unconfirmed. Valve is expected to disclose them close to the commencement of the international event.
