What the regional distribution will look like before IEM Rio Major 2022
Based on the innovations in the selection system for the Major, presented in February 2022, it is safe to say which teams will receive invites to RMR tournaments before IEM Rio Major 2022. As before, the main selection factor will depend on the performance of the teams at the previous Major, namely getting into the TOP-16.
As with the previous rulebook, the distribution is based on the results of teams from the previous major, allocating Legends places to regions whose teams made the playoffs, and Challengers places to regions whose teams placed 9th to 16th.
Comparing the results of PGL Major Antwerp 2022 and PGL Major Stockholm 2021, the united American region will again receive three slots in the major (and one of them directly to the Legends stage). As well as European teams will again be represented by seven teams at once at the Legends stage, occupying almost the entire list of participants in the playoffs of the previous Major.
While the allocation of slots for the Contenders stage always remains the same: three for Europe, three for the Americas and two for Asia, the allocation for the Legends and Challengers stages is directly related to the results of the previous Major.
Below is the regional distribution of slots at IEM Rio Major 2022, followed by the team that represented their region at the last PGL Major Antwerp 2022.
Stage Legends:
- Europe (Team Spirit).
- Europe (Natus Vincere).
- Europe (FaZe Clan).
- Europe (Copenhagen Flames).
- Europe (Heroic).
- America (FURIA).
- Europe (ENCE).
- Europe (NIP).
Stage Challengers:
- Europe (G2).
- Europe (Vitality).
- Europe (BIG).
- America (Imperial).
- Europe (Cloud9).
- Europe (Outsiders).
- Europe (Bad News Eagles).
- America (Team Liquid).
Another advantage of getting into the Top 16 of a Major is getting an invitation to the next RMR tournament for every team from the respective region. Due to the fact that the number of slots for each region at IEM Rio Major 2022 will be the same, the RMR tournament formats will also remain unchanged.
