PGL to hold Spring Major in Belgium
Tournament operator PGL has announced the holding of the spring CS:GO major. The championship will be held from May 9 to 22 in the Belgian city of Antwerp at the Antwerps Sportpaleis site. The prize pool of PGL Major Antwerp 2022 will be $1,000,000.
We are thrilled to be able to bring fans and players together for another major CS:GO tournament. Belgium has an impressive Counter-Strike fan base and many legendary players were born in this country. We are ready to offer incredible experiences to fans in the arena and passionate spectators at home.
The organizers noted that they will be closely monitoring the global pandemic and that they are ready to change their plans to ensure the safety of all participants in this tournament.
Belgium was our first choice for a Major because it is located in the heart of Europe. This place is accessible to everyone and the Sportpaleis is only 30 minutes from Brussels Airport. We know that CS:GO has a lot of fans in Europe and our goal was to find one of the most accessible destinations.
More information about PGL Major Antwerp 2022 will be revealed in the coming weeks. In particular, the organizers will talk about the selection rules for the championship, the format of the event and the ticket sales schedule. It is reported that PGL will also hold RMR tournaments for teams that qualify for the Major.
Earlier it was reported about Valve 's plans to connect several regions and hold three RMR tournaments in a LAN format. If the coronavirus pandemic allows the competition to be held properly, then teams from Europe and the CIS, Asia and Oceania, as well as North and South America, will fight in the same regions.
The goal of the championship is to bring the game back to the big stage and in front of a big audience, culminating in the playoffs at the 18,000 seat Antwerps Sportpaleis.
This will be the fifth major in a row to be held in Europe after the previous four, organized in London, Katowice, Berlin and Stockholm. At the same time, Belgium will host a tournament of this magnitude for the first time since Charleroi Esports in 2019.
As a reminder, the previous PGL Major Stockholm 2021, held by the same tournament operator, is considered one of the most successful in terms of sticker sales, part of which goes to participating teams and players. At the same time, the championship became the largest in terms of the prize fund, offering participants $2,000,000.
