IEM Summer 2021 is one of the championships in the Intel Extreme Masters series, at which the prize pool of 250,000 dollars and the ESL Pro Tour and BLAST Premier points will be up for grabs for teams. The tournament is part of the Intel Grand Slam series.
16 teams from all over the world will participate in the championship. 11 teams will receive direct invitations to the tournament, 3 will make it through the closed qualifiers, and the rest 2 slots will be taken by the winners of DH Open March NA 21 and DH Open March SA 21.
The teams will be divided into two groups with 16 teams in each one, in which they will need to play bo3 matches in the GSL format. The top 3 teams from every group will proceed to the playoffs.
The group winners will advance right to the semi-finals and the teams to place 2nd and 3rd will start their road from the quarterfinals. The first 2 playoff rounds will be played in a bo3 format and the final match will be held in a bo5 format.
