Intel Extreme Masters Shanghai 2018 is a large CS:GO tournament with a prize pool in the sum of $250,000.
About the tournament and the organizer
ESL is one of the most experienced and famous organizers of esports events. They managed to host lots of CS:GO championships, which prize pool amounted more than $200,000, and also one Major tournament, ESL One Cologne 2016. Its prize pool was in the sum of $1,000,000. Five participants were invited directly to Intel Extreme Masters XIII — Shanghai by the organizers and the rest three teams were determined with a help of qualifying rounds in China. Such teams as Gambit eSports, HellRaisers, NRG eSports, TyLoo and Virtus.pro are the lucky ones to receive invites. 5Power Gaming, B.O.O.T-d[S] and Grayhound Gaming passed the Chinese, Asian and Australian qualification, respectively.
ESL decided to make Shanghai New International Expo Center a venue of Intel Extreme Masters XIII — Shanghai.
The format
The championship will not differ from the rest of such events with its way of organizing. Teams will begin their participation in the group stage, which will be hosted by a GSL system. All matches of the group stage will be played in a bo3 format. Four participants will be in each group and the top two rosters will advance to the playoffs. A team that holds the first place in Group A will play against the second place of Group B in the first playoff match and the first place of Group B will face the second place in Group A. All matches of the playoff stage will also be a bo3 series.
The prize pool
The prize pool of Intel Extreme Masters Shanghai 2018 will amount $250,000. Teams that play the worst and place 7th-8th will earn consolation prizes in the sum of $5,500. Teams that lose the final matches of the group stage and hold the 5th-6th place will earn prizes in the sum of $10,000. Participants that advance to the playoffs and lose a semi-final match will earn $22,000 for placing 3rd-4th. The vice-champion will earn a solid prize in the sum of $50,000 and the champion of the tournament will receive the main money prize in the sum of $125,000.
