Where Winds Meet Sects: How To Join Them Full Guide

Where Winds Meet Sects: How To Join Them Full Guide

In Where Winds Meet, sects are a very important part of the game that directly affect your character’s progression. Each sect provides its own bonuses and unlocks a unique martial art that becomes available after you join. Below, I’ve gathered all the sects along with their descriptions and rules.

How to join a sect in Where Winds Meet and why you need them

Where Winds Meet Sects: How To Join Them Full Guide 1

To join a sect, all you need to do is follow the clues and find the Elder, who will explain the conditions of entry. After you fulfill these conditions, you return to the Elder and confirm your membership. If your previous actions already matched the sect’s values and code of conduct, there is a chance you will be accepted right away without having to undergo Trials.

In general, joining a sect is not mandatory, but you’ll be missing out on a lot of bonuses and character progression opportunities. On the other hand, you won’t be bound by sect rules and will be able to travel freely.

If you use the Skill Theft ability wisely, you can steal and learn the sects’ restricted combat styles without becoming their disciple, although some of them will be noticeably harder to obtain. At the same time, you keep full freedom in choosing quests and adventures, since you are not bound by any specific sect’s rules. However, some quests and items tied directly to sects may remain unavailable to you.

By joining a sect, you not only gain access to its martial arts, but also to a special Sect Shop, unique titles, and the ability to raise your rank to unlock special privileges and cosmetic rewards. To do this, players need to complete Trials and follow the sect’s internal rules.

And one more small bonus: when you join a sect, you receive a welcome kit - it includes the sect’s signature martial art and a matching weapon. Later on, you can switch to another sect at any time, and if you wish, even return to one you have already left.

All Where Winds Meet Sects and How To Join Them

Well, now that we have figured out what sects are needed for, let’s now talk about the features of each of them, as well as how to get into each of them.

As I said above, sects differ from each other not only in their names, but also in their combat styles, weapons, separate shops, quests and NPCs, so the choice of the first sects differs between them not only in their names, but also in their martial arts, the weapons they use, separate shops, special quests and NPCs. Because of this, choosing the first Sect can be difficult, even though you can always leave it and return later.

Below is the full list of all existing sects.

Well of Heaven

Where Winds Meet Sects: How To Join Them Full Guide 2

A sect of true justice, whose members believe that righteousness stands above any laws and moral boundaries. At the center of their teaching is the idea of brotherhood, and their main combat style is Thundercry Blade. And here are the features that will be unlocked for you: Predator's Shield (Martial Art Skill), Galecloud Cleave (Charged Skill), Sunrush Gale (Special Skill).

Joining the sect is connected to the NPC waiter San Qian’er in Harvestfall Village, but he will not always directly tell you what to do.

Sect rules:

  • Heroic Righteousness: Weekly feats require a sufficient amount of Adventure Slips as proof of bravery.
  • Unrestrained Spirit: The sect can reduce your Precept Value by up to 1000.
  • Generous and Righteous: Earning too much in a week punishes you with a -100 Precept Value penalty.
  • Brotherhood: Members of the same Sect have no right to harm each other.

Members of Well of Heaven are the local Robin Hoods. They do not serve the "authorities" or the "rich" and direct their skills toward protecting those who cannot defend themselves.

Silver Needle

Silver Needle is a sect connected with medicine, which is very much in demand in the game. If you wish to help other players, you need to pass the trial called Three Questions of Apricot Grove. Before that, you first need to obtain the rank Healer - Initiate to master the basics of healing.

In order to join the sect, you will need to find Doctor Yuan. He lives not far from Sage’s Knoll, and you can ask the residents of Qinghe for more details about this. It is Yuan who can lead you to this sect.

Before joining, every Silver Needle disciple must answer three questions - not only about medicine, but also about the heart. In Silver Needle, they heal by “reading souls” and follow the principle that “every life has its price”. The amount of payment for a visit is determined by the patient’s conscience - what matters is not the actual amount of money, but the fact that they give something.

Entry requirements:

Trial: The Three Questions - All Silver Needle disciples go through the Three Questions trial. Complete it and obtain a Medical Record in order to join the sect.Submit your medical record (3) - After each attempt at the Three Questions trial, you receive a Medical Record. Hand these records over to the Elder who is in charge of entry so that he can make a decision.

Silver Needle Martial Arts and Weapons

Panacea Fan:

  • Fourfold Inquiry (Light Attack)
  • Emerald Dewtouch (Healing)
  • Mistbound Aid (Skill)
  • Light Dust After Morning Rain (Charged Skill)

Inkwell Fan

  • Jadewind Shield (Skill)
  • Glow & Flow (Charged Skill)
  • Moonlit Spring (Airborne)

And here is the list of sect rules: you will need to participate in treatment in multiplayer and successfully complete it: Precept Value +10. And the weekly requirement: receive at least 15 likes, otherwise Precept Value -10. In general, it’s not that difficult, but the tasks are very much for an enthusiast.

Midnight Blades

Where Winds Meet Sects: How To Join Them Full Guide 3

For those who love killing everything that moves and cutting down enemies left and right, Midnight Blades is probably one of the most suitable sects. The main principle of the sect is “Live for battle and only for it”. They earn karma for victories and love farming it.

Main rules of the Midnight Blades sect:

  • Midnight Judgement - In Midnight Judgement mode, defeat Sufferers to take their identity/karma and advance along the Path of Asura.
  • Kill to Seize Karma - Destroy wanderers to receive Karma Points; if you are defeated, you lose part of your karma points.
  • Meditative Samadhi - In battles in the open world, do not hesitate and show no mercy - leave no one alive.

How to join Midnight Blades:

  • First, obtain an Annihilation Token by killing any mob.
  • Then go to Halo Peak and find the NPC "Seriously Injured Swordsman" on the northern side of the mountain.
  • Next, follow the blood trail to the east of Halo Peak - at the end of the path you will find another NPC named "Icchantika".
  • Choose the option "Inherit karmic burden, join the sect" from him.
  • Give him your Annihilation Token - after that he will assign you to kill any living being. Kill any bandit, player, NPC, or animal.
  • After this, open the sect menu, go to the Midnight Blades section and click "Join Now".

Midnight Blades Martial Arts and Weapons:

Infernal Twinblades

  • Heaven's Wrath (Light Attack)
  • Addled Mind (Skill)
  • Calamity's Greed (Special Skill)
  • Flamelash (Enhanced Skill)

If you like the “kill everything that moves” style and do not feel empathy for any NPCs or players, this is your sect. And to improve your killing potential, I recommend checking out the article Where Winds Meet Best Early Game Builds, where we have collected the best builds for the early game and described their pros and cons in detail.

Nine Mortal Ways

A sect of tricksters and jokers. Members of Nine Mortal Ways live for deception, pranks, and clever tricks. They do not rush into direct combat - they are much more interested in confusing people, changing their appearance, meddling in other people’s stories, and watching their reaction.

Main rules of the Nine Mortal Ways sect:

  • A Thousand Faces - Take part in the Disguise system, try on different identities, disguise yourself as other people, and live many different lives while remaining a member of Nine Mortal Ways.
  • Deceiving Heaven - If your prank fails or you are thrown into jail, your Virtue will decrease by 10.

To find the entrance to the Nine Mortal Ways sect, pay attention to the straw sandals scattered on the ground. They can appear in different places. If you notice such sandals and follow their trail (from one pair to the next), they will eventually lead you to the place where you can enter the sect.

Nine Mortal Ways Martial Arts and Weapons:

Mortal Rope Dart

  • Bladebound Thread (Skill)
  • Rodent Resilience (Charging Stance)
  • Rodent Rampage (Special Skill)

In my opinion, this sect will be interesting if you are generally into this kind of gameplay, or if you have progressed so far in the game that you have nothing else to do and just want to have some fun. And overall, you get good rewards for killing the Dao Lord boss.

Velvet Shade

Where Winds Meet Sects: How To Join Them Full Guide 4

This is a sect of pleasure and sensations. Members of Velvet Shade enjoy good wine, flirting, company, and lively conversation. They are not about asceticism and discipline - their path is connected with pleasure, emotions, and human desires. If you enter a village and hear loud laughter, light revelry, and chatter around the tables, most likely a follower of Floral Reverie is already having fun nearby, lifting everyone’s spirits.

Main rules of the Floral Reverie sect

  • Full Bloom - Show your charm to the world, follow the call of your heart, and trade affection for hearts.
  • Vermilion Lips - The world is full of sorrow and suffering. Visit the Windtail Lounge to comfort hearts.
  • Drunk on Flowers - How can you be satisfied with a single heart when there are a “thousand flowers” around and a sweet intoxication?

Joining this sect is a completely different level. Drunken Petals is an elite branch of Velvet Shade. You don’t get there by ordinary means - here it’s not you who chooses the sect, but the sect that chooses you. Disciples of Drunken Petals are considered the embodiment of grace and charm, so you can only get in by invitation.

As long as the Velvet Shade Flower Ranking system is not yet available, it is impossible to join - all you can do is wait near the Revelry Hall until the ranking opens and the opportunity to receive an invitation appears.

Velvet Shade Martial Arts and Weapons:

Vernal Umbrella

  • Spring Sorrow (Skill)
  • Apricot Heaven (Charged Skill)
  • Unfading Flower (Special Skill)

Basically, this is a sect of charisma and enjoyment of life: less about combat, more about flirting, social scenes, and the “drunk on petals” Jianghu atmosphere. If you are more interested in social gameplay, then this is your path.

Lone Cloud

This is a sect of cunning sword masters. Disciples of Lone Cloud are obsessed with the idea of mastering the most complex and demanding fencing techniques - this is more important to them than money, reputation, or a peaceful life. For the sake of continuing the path of the swordsman and not being kicked out of Jianghu, they sometimes resort to not the most honest or “clean” methods, as long as they can stay on their feet and continue their training.

Main rules of the Lone Summit sect:

  • Forgotten by the Jianghu - Disciples of Lone Cloud who want to return to the sect must obtain the blessing of their old comrades.
  • The Riddle of Love - The riddle of love is the most difficult riddle in life. It can only be solved once.
  • Streetwise Strategist - Try “get-rich-quick schemes” on the streets, otherwise you will lose 10 Precept Value.

Basically, this sect is currently unavailable for joining. Here is what the official source says: the disciples of Lonely Cloud are obsessed with mathematics. Right now they are not ready to accept new followers. It is possible that new opportunities to join the sect will appear in the future. This looks like placeholder content for the future (the sect is established in the lore, but there are no joining mechanics yet).

Hollow Vale

This is a sect that lives by the principle of balance: life and death must always balance each other. Members of Hollow Vale are both healers and poisoners at the same time. They can save your life - or send you to the other side, depending on what their understanding of balance requires. So be careful when you meet members of this sect, you never know for sure what is going on in their heads.

Main rules of the Heartless Vale sect

  • No Living Puppets - Life and death must remain natural, so creating Living Puppets from living people is strictly forbidden. Disciples of Heartless Vale carry poison within themselves, but at the same time remain compassionate. Turning living people into
  • Dream Puppets is an absolute taboo. The only exception is if a disciple conducts experiments only on themselves.
  • Balance of Life and Death - If you heal, you are also obliged to use poison. The sect believes that life and death must always be in balance. Therefore, every time you heal someone, you must use poison at least once as well. If this rule is violated, the punishment falls on the disciple themselves - they begin to suffer.

Hollow Vale is an overly secretive sect - right now no one knows how to join it. So it’s possible that a bit later we will see this sect revealed in the game.

Raging Tides

This is a sect of spear fighters. Members of Raging Tide live for battles: according to their rules, they must fight with a spear every day, otherwise they lose their form and sharpness of skill. If somewhere deep inland you see a strange “wave” of spear-wielding warriors, it is most likely the disciples of Raging Tides on the march.

Main rules of the Raging Tides sect

Spear Still Sharp - An unpolished sword loses its sharpness, and a spear that is not tested in battle loses its lethality. Disciples of Raging Tides must hone their mastery in battles every day, not allowing themselves to relax.

How to join the Raging Tides sect

Very recently, at the First Jar Banquet festival in Heaven’s Pier, the entire Raging Tides Sect - from the master to the ordinary disciples - got so thoroughly drunk that it is temporarily impossible to join them now.

Raging Tides Martial Arts and Weapons:

Heavenquaker Spear

  • Sober Sorrow (Skill)
  • Drifting Thrust (Charged Skill)
  • Sweep All (Special Skill)

Stormbreaker Spear

  • Storm Roar (Skill)
  • Fury Spear (Charged Skill)
  • Thunder Thrust (Special Skill)

Another sect that will be unlocked in the future. From the description, it is clear that the sect will be focused specifically on combat. But for now it is unclear whether it will be more suited for PvE or PvP content, though I think that in any case, for those who like to fight and those who love spears, this sect will be to their liking.

The Masked Troupe

A wandering sect. For the members of the Liyuan Troupe, the main thing is to live for their own pleasure, not rush anywhere, and enjoy every moment. They devote themselves to music and dance, completely rejecting martial arts.

Main rules of the Liyuan Troupe:

  • Unknown - Unknown

For now, this is the most mysterious sect that awaits us in the future. The only thing that is clear is that this is a social sect. And if you like the social aspect of the game, then this playstyle will suit you.

Inkbound Order

Where Winds Meet Sects: How To Join Them Full Guide 5

Another sect that is currently unavailable, but should be unlocked in the near future. Inkbound Order is a sect of scholars and chroniclers. Members of Inkbound Order collect, record, and protect the history of the world. By joining it, anyone, no matter who they were before, can become a scribe and devote themselves to preserving knowledge for future generations.

Main rule of Inkford Hall:

  • Writing and Scholarship - The words of a sage become law for all under heaven.

At the moment, this is all the information that exists about this sect, and it has become the last one in our list. Official sources say that the Imperial Examinations in Inkbound Order have not yet begun, so it is currently impossible to join the sect. And this is yet another setup for future content that awaits us.

What is the best sect in Where Winds Meet?

As you may have noticed, there are a lot of sects in the game, but which one is the best to choose? And of course, the answer lies within yourself, it all depends on what exactly you are looking for in this game. If you are interested in combat and PK, then Midnight Blades is for you. If you want to help players through healing, then Silver Needle is your path. The game already gives us a choice, but in the future this choice will increase many times over, and each of you will be able to find what suits you best. This article will be updated as new content is released, so make sure to save it so you do not lose it.
