The Thing and Human Torch in Marvel Rivals: Release Date, Roles and Abilities.

Marvel Rivals has not stopped evolving for a second since its release on December 5, 2024. After the launch of Season 1, more and more heroes from various superhero universes started being announced and added to the game. As a result, players began closely following these updates, even digging into the game files to figure out when the next hero would be released and who it would be. We’ll make things a bit easier for you—in this article, you’ll find out about all the new Marvel Rivals heroes that have already been added to the game or will be introduced soon.
All About New Heroes in Marvel Rivals Season 1

As mentioned above, with the launch of Marvel Rivals Season 1: Eternal Night Falls, numerous new Marvel Rivals heroes, along with detailed information, were discovered in the game files. Based on this data, we learned that by the end of Season 1, Marvel Rivals will feature a total of 37 heroes (currently 35), including all four members of the Fantastic Four. This aligns with the developer's plan to release Marvel Rivals new characters twice per season, even though no official roadmap has been revealed.
Additionally, on February 20, 2025, an article was published on the official Marvel Rivals website, where the developers shared details about the upcoming patch. It covered map updates, game modes, Battle Pass changes, and—most importantly for us—confirmed the release of new Marvel Rivals characters.
The Thing

The Thing is one of the Marvel Rivals new heroes whose release has been officially confirmed by the developers. After Mister Fantastic and Invisible Woman were added to the game at the start of Season 1 on January 10, it was announced that The Thing would be introduced six to seven weeks after the season began. Based on this information, his release is expected around February 21 or February 28, likely marking the start of the second half of the Eternal Night Falls season.
Role and Abilities
In the game, The Thing will play the role of Vanguard, which is not surprising. The hero himself looks strong and, according to his lore, has a lot of strength. Here is a full list of the abilities of the Marvel Rivals new hero.
Name | Description |
ROCKY JAB | Rapidly punch forward |
CLOBBERIN' TIME | Uses immense power to launch all enemies in front of you into the air |
STONE HAYMAKER | Deliver a devastating Heavy Blow |
YANCY STREET CHARGE | Continuously charge forward, launching up enemies and leaving behind a zone at the final position that prevents the use of mobility abilities |
EMBATTLED LEAP | Jump towards your ally and apply damage reduction to both of you |
UNYIELDING WILL | Immune to launch up, knockback, and other displacement effects |
COSMIC FASTBALL | Wolverine, Hulk and The Thing can interact with each other. Once both parties can confirm, Hulk or The Thing can lift Wolverine and press the key to hurl him forward. These combos featuring the new Marvel Rivals character are simply devastating and will help you win matches with ease. |
Human Torch

To complete the Fantastic Four lineup in Marvel Rivals, the only missing member is Human Torch. Fans will be happy to hear that he is set to arrive alongside The Thing, approximately six to seven weeks after the start of Season 1. With the release of these two Marvel Rivals new heroes, the Season 1 campaign will reach its logical conclusion, bringing the full superhero team together. Now, we just have to wait for the official patch release on February 21 or February 28 to finally test these 2 new marvel rivals characters in action!
Role and Abilities
Human Torch's playstyle will be based on his agility and fire abilities, making him a highly powerful new Marvel Rivals hero in the right hands. He will take on the role of a Duelist, so we highly recommend that all players in this position start studying his ability list, which we provide below.
Name | Description |
Fire Cluster | Launch forward a splittable fireball. Should be a fast projectile like Iron Mans, but this splittable part, my guess is that it will do some splash damage on impact making it easier to hit and be consistent |
Plasma Body | Hold LShift to enter a state of accelerated ascent. Johnny will be another flying hero from what we know |
Blazing Blast | Launch a fireball to create a Flame Field at the targeted area. Looks like Torch will be really good at denying space a controlling the fight |
Flaming Meteor | Dive towards the ground, dealing damage to enemies and detonating any Flame Fields hit |
Pyro-Prison | Connect Flame Fields to form a firewall that deals continuous burning damage to enemies. It will depend a lot on how long it lasts, and according to that, you have to time it right. |
Supernova | Explode with cosmic fire to deal damage to enemies within range. Upon skill activation, all Flame Fields will transform into Flame Tornadoes, dealing extra damage |
Burning Soar | Soar rapidly upwards. This is gonna be his main dodging shots ability. He will need it because probably Torch is going to be an easy target for hitscans |
Storming Ignition | Team-Up Ability – Storm can consume one of Human Torch’s Fire tornadoes into her ultimate to ignite her hurricane. Likewise, Human Torch can turn Storm’s hurricane into a fiery hurricane with his ultimate, which will then enlarge and intensify any of his fire tornadoes. This could be a very big problem due to Storm Ult already being close to overpowered |
