Nearest Future of Esports
Bogdan LashchenkoEverybody noticed that in 2021 esports continues to grow although the reality is going sour. This tendency has been observed for 10 years. Esports has managed to avoid huge problems related to the pandemic. However, some competitions were postponed and even canceled.
Growth continues and this is what really matters
If we speak about popularity of such disciplines like Dota 2, League of Legend, CS:GO, any fan and player has definitely noticed it. Bookmakers widened their esports range having added more markets.
In 2021, the audience has increased by 12%. And now the number has reached nothing less than 445 million. Most gamblers are not afraid of making a bet on various Dota 2 or CS:GO events. Europe has become the epicentre, a kind of magnet that attracts viewers and participants. Asia and North America are standing right behind.
Global Research
To understand the European esports market, two big surveys were carried out. Participants in competitions – players, coaches, stuff and audience – were interviewed. In total the number of participants in the subway exceeded 12 thousand people from 8 European countries.
The second survey took place among people related to game development, broadcast and organization companies. The ones who influence the development of esports directly.
The answers to the questions met all expectations. The respondents noted positive changes and progress of esportsmen. The most important fact is that the overwhelming majority of people reported an increase in their profit in comparison with the previous seasons. It is not surprising as the viewership keeps on growing.
Investors also noted that their investments paid off and the revenue increased in comparison with the previous years. Up to 60% of the respondents expressed satisfaction with esports business. Only 17% of the interviewed said that their expectations were higher, the others are partially satisfied.
The pandemic got involved
Everybody met 2021 positively taking into account the unexpected circumstances because of the pandemic. Yes, serious restrictions imposed by the government of many various countries had a huge influence. But the organizers of the tournaments adjusted to the new regulations and switched to the online format.
On the other hand, problems in traditional sports had a positive effect on the popularity of Dota 2, CS:GO and LoL. Viewers paid their attention to tournaments in the discipline and triggered esports development. To be honest, not all esports branched were developing as well as others. Some of them had to limit themselves and even disrupt their work. But it is logical, it could not have been otherwise.
Resume
Apparently, esports are going through the pandemic problems better. Figures show it as well as surveys carried out among all participants in esports events. We want to believe and hope that esports development will continue in 2022 as well. Let’s hope this is what the future holds for us.
