The Mains of the best MK11 Pros
Yuriy SheremetThere are currently 37 characters in the Mortal Kombat 11 roster, including all those from the available DLCs. With that many possibilities in matchups and their unique variants and playstyles, professional players generally stick to one main character they choose to play consistently. They might also pick a few other characters, called secondaries, to help prepare for tough matchups or have a fuller set of tools when they need to reverse a set's course.
For this reason, we want to take a moment and show you what the current best players in the scene use and why. Keep in mind that you will still need a lot of hours for practice if you want to pick up Sheeva after seeing F0xy play her at the top level of competition.
Dominique "SonicFox" McLean
Starting with the best of the best. SonicFox has always been a stellar player in pretty much any fighting game they have participated in at a pro-level. NRS esports is no different. Although they tend to lean into Joker as a consistent pick, it should not come as a surprise when Jacqui Briggs or Cassie Cage comes on to the set for a cleanup.
But it does not stop there. Like Tekken Master, SonicFox is a jack of all trades player as they will also have an Erron Black, Jade, D'vorah, Sindel, and even Johnny Cage ready to go if that is what it takes to get a victory over their opponents.
Jarrad "NinjaKilla212" Gooden
NinjaKila has long been part of the NRS competitive community and currently fields some of the best Johnny Cage and Liu Kang one could hope to see. Fast and hard-hitting characters with plenty of options at close range and consistent closers. It is not easy to pick up on, but if you have spent thousands of hours into the game like these pros have, you should be able to achieve great heights with these two.
As a secondary, Jacqui Briggs makes another appearance thanks to getting great utility and safe specials, making use of the ease of jump in attacks in the game.
Denom “A F0xy Grampa" Jones
From the United Kingdom, F0xy comes in with a brilliant Kung Lao. A powerful zoner with many options at his disposal to damage enemies at a close and mid-distance. Potentially putting them in a panic or at least in a hard place to get out of.
In terms of secondaries, a strong kween Sheeva makes an appearance thanks to Stomp, which has earned F0xy his fair share of memes, as well as Shang Tsung and Cassie Cage.
Sayed “Tekken Master” Hashim Ahmed
We mentioned him earlier, but Tekken Master is perhaps the only player to come close to mastering all Mortal Kombat characters, but indeed a number well above any other player would consider. Six secondaries and potentially a dozen or more tertiary picks adorn his skill set. And even calling them secondaries might sell short his ability to adapt to what his opponents do.
His main, if you would like to name one, is Sonya. Although not favoured by the rest of the community, a strong pick for most other opponents is not preferred. But Tekken Master has been enjoying the Sonya choice from way back in time.
Ryan "Dragon" Walker
Dragon is a much more focus player that has chosen to learn and specialized in a deadly character. Cetrion continues to be a powerful fixture of the game. Het Fatal Blow, Jump-ins, and the capacity to finish off rivals from a distance give a clear picture of why having her as primary is a good choice. But Dragon has also played a little bit of Kitana as a way to mix up his gameplay.
Wellington "Konqueror249" de Castro
Talking about powerful characters. Sub-Zero is, in the minds of many, an evil character for online competition. Not just on that move that many still argue is reactable or not, but a broad set of abilities and combos that can put a lot of characters into the back foot quickly. Konqueror is perhaps the best Sub-Zero player in South America, if not the world at large.
George "Grr" Foulkes
Sand might be coarse, rough, and it gets everyone. But the sands of time? Well because it is soft and Smooth. Or that is what Geras would say. Grr is the most wholesome competitor for the NRS esport community, so in a brilliant stroke of poetry, he plays one of the most coarse characters out there with plenty of power behind its command grab and hard to escape corner strings.
Julien "Deoxys" Gorena
We already spoke of Jacqui Briggs's benefits, and Deoxys makes those points shine in his gameplay. He also sets out to play Geras as a secondary. You can take this as a good example that you can and focus on not just a single character but also a handful and see what works best with the type of play style you want to play and play best.
