During the April 2 Nintendo Direct, the company officially revealed GameChat, along with other exciting features of the Nintendo Switch 2. A key highlight was the C Button, which acts as a shortcut to instantly access voice chat. This marks Nintendo’s first true built-in voice communication system, moving away from the frustrating mobile app solutions of the past.

Nintendo Switch 2 Video Chat

With Nintendo Switch 2 Video Chat, players can see each other while gaming, making multiplayer experiences even more immersive. By plugging in a USB-C camera (sold separately), up to four players can engage in video calls while playing.

For those who prefer voice only, GameChat might be like Nintendo Switch 2 Voice Chat, which allows up to 12 players to communicate in real time. Unlike the old system that required a smartphone app, GameChat runs directly on the Switch 2, offering seamless and high-quality voice communication. Plus, background noise reduction ensures crystal-clear audio, whether you're gaming solo or in a group.

The C Button is the heart of GameChat. Located on the right Joy-Con 2 controller, it acts as a quick-access button to start chatting, accept invitations, or mute yourself instantly. No need to fumble through menus—just press the C Button, and you're ready to talk. This makes online gaming much more intuitive and social.

Nintendo Switch 2 Camera

The Nintendo Switch 2 Camera is an optional accessory designed to enhance the GameChat experience. This dedicated USB-C camera plugs directly into the top of the Switch 2 and enables video chat during gameplay. Whether you're playing in TV mode, tabletop mode, or handheld mode, the camera ensures you stay connected with friends in a more personal way.

One of its standout features is the wide-angle lens, which allows it to capture multiple people in the frame. This makes it perfect for multiplayer gaming sessions, virtual hangouts, or just sharing reactions while playing. The camera is also adjustable, so you can position it to get the best view, whether you're sitting close to the screen or across the room.

With GameChat video support, up to four players can engage in video calls while gaming, making Nintendo’s online experience more interactive than ever. You can even change your background to match the game you're playing, adding an extra layer of fun to your calls and making it a bit cringe in a good way.
