StarRupture Water Locations & Sources

Surviving on an alien planet requires managing hydration, a core mechanic in StarRupture. It is not possible to simply drink from a lake or river to replenish your water meter. Instead, survival depends on locating and gathering specific consumable plants called Hydrobulbs, which grow near these bodies of water. As you advance, you can use these plants at a Recipe Station to produce far more effective hydration items.
Water Locations in StarRupture
I found water sources scattered across the planet, typically appearing as small lakes or waterways. While you cannot drink directly from them, they are essential landmarks. At the start of the game, I located plenty of ponds right on the plains outside the lander, making it a reliable area to search. The goal is to scan the terrain surrounding these water sources for the plants you need to collect.
- Locate a small lake or waterway.
- Search the immediate vicinity for tall, grass-like plants distinguished by their blue sacks.
- Approach and harvest these plants to collect Hydrobulbs.
Note: These resource nodes respawn regularly, so I could establish a dependable route to gather them.

Water Sources
Once I gathered a handful of Hydrobulbs, I opened my inventory to consume them. By right-clicking the item and selecting 'use', my character drank the bulb, which restored 15 points of hydration. I also discovered they could be processed in the Analyzing Station to yield 5 Data Points, making them useful for research in the early game.
- Aqua Fluid — I recommend researching this first. It requires 30 Hydrobulbs and 20 Star Tears, which I found by exploring the rocky hills east and west of the starting area.
- Aqua Gel — for a more substantial hydration boost, this recipe uses 60 Hydrobulbs and 25 Grubblers. I located Grubblers on the gold trees near the map beacon directly east of the lander.
- Other Consumables — the station also allows for the creation of Aqua Bars, Chews, and other advanced consumables.
Note: The primary difference in methods is efficiency; consuming raw Hydrobulbs is sufficient for early survival, but crafting Aqua variants provides a significantly larger hydration return, which is critical for longer expeditions.
StarRupture: More Tips
I found that my progress in the game was tied directly to construction projects for different corporations, not exploration. The StarRupture building system unlocks new structures only after I completed specific commissions. Building begins by placing a Base Core for protection, followed by Ore Excavators and power sources. I learned to lay out the whole production chain before placing foundations, connecting Smelters and other machines with a rail network. I built my factories on large, flat terrain to allow for modular expansion, as I often needed to rebuild sections to integrate new unlocks. The Base Core itself I placed in a defensible spot, away from the main factory and the nearby Monoliths where enemy creatures spawn.
