Shooters of old - which classics will never die
Elen StelmakhShooters are a favourite gaming genre for many gamers. However, not every game has been able to survive the generational shift and withstand the competition from the iconic series. History is replete with examples of good shooters that were never continued due to weak earnings and studio closures. However, we can think of a number of reverse examples of games that managed to survive the decade and remain a favourite with many players. It is these shooters that we are going to look back on and find out why they are so good and why fans still play them.
Counter-Strike 1.6.
Let's start from the cult for the FPS-genre game, that became the basis of great generation of gamers. Do not forget that Counter-Strike 1.6 is the actual ancestor of the esports in its present form. It is from here went the feet of many legendary players and teams.
As for the essence, Counter-Strike 1.6 is a classic of the genre, offering players a clear division into two factions: special forces (defense side) and terrorists (attack side). Simple gameplay and the presence of a competitive component combined with minimal entry requirements made Counter-Strike 1.6 a phenomenon.
Today, twenty-odd years later, the game is still popular with fans who don't mind logging in and playing with their friends.
Far Cry 3
A truly iconic installment of Far Cry, which is where the modern history of the once-buried video game series begins. Ubisoft managed to breathe a lot of bright colors into Far Cry 3, presenting us three whales: colorful world, interesting and at the time unofficial gameplay and charismatic antagonist.
In this way, the developers simultaneously succeeded in enticing and hooking players. Later Ubisoft started to feed the fans with repeating of this formula, but still Far Cry 3 remains the most successful part of the series. And no one can argue with the fact that the mission with setting the field on fire with drugs to the powerful Skrillex track embodies all the madness that gamers had to deal with in the first playthrough.
Have I told you what insanity is yet? Insanity is exactly repeating the same action over and over again in the hope of making a change. It is. It is. Insanity.
Unfortunately, Ubisoft got so carried away with the term 'madness' itself that they went on to repeat themselves and engage in self-copying.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.
One of the most coveted games for all fans of the post-apocalyptic setting. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. instantly drew in millions of gamers from around the world by giving gamers a story built around the Chernobyl accident. Everything in the game is perfect: the atmosphere of the forgotten world, riddles, anomalies and the story of the main character.
Now everyone is waiting with anticipation for the second part of the series to be released. However, the number of additions that have been released since the main numbered series has kept fans busy to this day.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
Modern Warfare 2 is perhaps the latest example of where developers have been reverent about their creation. Already afterwards, the Call of Duty series started to turn into a pointless money-grubbing game. But it was this installment that became truly iconic, managing to make a notable breakthrough in the genre.
Not only the graphics and the level of effects, but the gameplay itself made Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 a place you will want to come back to again and again. It is a shame that Infinity Ward and Activision did not manage to repeat their success, but even so the game remains an example of a perfect shooter.
Half-Life.
Another iconic Valve creation, where the legs of the aforementioned Counter-Strike 1.6 are growing from. The adventures of Gordon Freeman was a real breakthrough in the genre, because in the late nineties everyone was just getting used to 3D graphics. But Half-Life managed to quickly gather an incredible fanbase.
Due to perfect scenario, awesome gameplay and graphical innovations this game had a cult following, that caused a lot of add-ons and modifications. And after the second game's release Half-Life remained in the vanguard of the best shooters. And the success can be repeated only by the third part of the series.
