Mid-Season Invitational 2024 (MSI) Schedule and Location
First things first: this year's Mid-Season Invitational 2024 (MSI) will take place from 1 to 19 May. From 1-19 May, top teams from all over the world, including China, South Korea, North America and Europe, will battle it out for $250,000 and more, but more on that later.
As in previous years, the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 (MSI) will be split into multiple stages, but they will all take place in one location - Chengdu, China. This is the second time in the history of the MSI series that the tournament has been held in China. Riot first brought the Mid-Season Invitational to China in 2016. At that time, the championship was hosted by the country's cultural capital of Shanghai, and in 2024 that honour will go to Chengdu.
Mid-Season Invitational 2024 (MSI) Format Changes - Big Bets on Kona
The original concept behind the Mid-Season Invitational was regional battles. Essentially, participants competed for prestige and a prize that, while not bad, was quite modest by the standards of modern esports. The MSI championship award was a constant value, and the total prize pool was $250,000. In 2024, things change dramatically.
At the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 (MSI), spots in the year's main tournament, the League of Legends Worlds Championship 2024 (Worlds), are added to the cash reward.
The winner of MSI 2024 immediately qualifies for Worlds 2024. On top of that, this slot counts as an additional slot for a region, which opens up more opportunities for residents of a particular league. The same mechanics work for the vice-champion of the Mid-Season Invitational 2024: that is, the runner-up of the first international tournament earns an extra place for their region. What's true is that the top-two ranked team at MSI 2024 will have to advance to the play-offs of their summer split (or Regional Finals in the case of LEC) to earn a spot at MSI 2024 in May 2024.
For now, that's all about the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 that we can share with you. We will update this post soon, but in the meantime you can visit our League of Legends blog where you will find a lot of The International stuff.
