MENA gaming world: Top 5 popular games in the region

If there is one thing we can say for certain that is the fact that the MENA region really appreciates video games. Video games are a huge part of everything that is offered as a form of online gaming entertainment in places such as the United Arab Emirates. The only country in the region where consumer interest in video gaming has diminished is Egypt. Elsewhere, consumers who enjoy video games multiplied, and that seems to be a great reason to celebrate video gaming in the MENA region. Yet the question remains: what are regional players' favorite games? We take look at the most famous and popular options for games in the region.

1. Fortnite Battle Royale

Fortnite Battle Royale is a casual mad world of shootouts and a survival-of-the-fittest style of combat. Yet, for those who play it, Fortnite is simply a lot of fun. The game forces you to think strategically as well as put your shooting and macro skills to the fore. You will need to scavenge the battlefield for leftovers you can use to build shelter and protect yourself from incoming missiles but also use as distractions to gun down your opponents.

Fortnite is a great game that requires a lot of skill, dedication, and understanding of how FPS and macro games work for the first time. You cannot commit too much too early, for you will be left out in the open as a sitting duck!

2. Counter-Strike

Counter-Strike is an absolute beast when it comes to popularity. The game is one of the longest-standing competitive shooter titles out there and it is definitely worth your while. Players are excited about the potential to win big and they can win big in more than a single way. However, CS:GO does require a lot of hard skills that MENA players are more than happy to hone.

3. League of Legends

League of Legends is a massive fun game because it's simple to get into, and yet you can really master it to the point you dominate all there is. League of Legends is arguably the most successful game in the MENA region, because of several distinct factors, including:

  • Easy learning curve and accommodating gameplay
  • Countless options to experiment with the gameplay
  • Numerous opportunities to become a good player
  • Worldwide popularity and tons of events to try
  • Great ranking system and additional perks to check out

League of Legends is a fantastic MOBA game because while very competitive, its gameplay rewards rather than punish mistakes. A mistake in League of Legends is an opportunity to grow and it's never too bad. In a way, League of Legends reminds me of casino gaming in the MENA region where wins follow losses and vice versa. It's always fun to play at a casino, regardless of the outcome. Well, the same logic pretty much applies to League of Legends which is a great game to try, experiment with, and never worry too much about the outcome. That is precisely why MENA players enjoy this game so much!

4. Dota 2

Similar to League of Legends, Dota 2 comes with a grandeur of its own. The title is one of the most hardcore MOBA-genre games and it has a steep, but very rewarding learning edge. You will find the experience to be quite satisfying when you first enter Dota 2, as the developers have ensured that new players are welcomed to an accommodating setting rather than being tossed in a highly competitive environment. Dota 2 is a game that requires players to exert a lot of effort, but it pays back generously by providing those same players with an opportunity to reap the fruit of their hard labor. Of course, Dota 2 is a game, and you cannot expect it to be too daunting at first. However, when played competitively, Dota 2 really is something out of this world, but MENA players seem to be very competitively-minded themselves.

5. FIFA

FIFA is the hugely popular soccer game simulator which is truly one of the most successful game franchises of all time. Electronic Arts (EA), the company behind the timeless classic, has been putting in continuous efforts to ensure that insofar as competitive games go, FIFA truly has some outstanding options to offer back. The game will make it very simple for you to enjoy yourself by simply entering this digital world and assuming control over one of your favorite teams. However, you will not just manage them – you will be right there on the field with them, controlling and directing their every move.
